"No, they won't be able to because they'll have much better housing," President Trump said when asked if Palestinians would have a right to return to the Gaza Strip. "In other words, I'm talking about building a permanent home for them," AFP quoted Trump as saying in an interview with Fox News published on February 10.

Palestinians travel between Gaza City and Nuseirat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip on February 10.

Last week, the leader shocked many by announcing plans to take over and own the Gaza Strip, turning it into an international resort. He initially said that Palestinians there would be resettled in Arab countries in the region, but White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt quickly reversed course, saying that Gazans should only be relocated temporarily while the territory is rebuilt.

In the interview, President Trump stated that there are up to 6 places for Palestinians to live outside the Gaza Strip. Countries in the region such as Egypt and Jordan have opposed the idea.

"We will build safe communities, a little further away from where they are now, where all these dangers are. Meanwhile, I will own this place (Gaza). Think of it as a real estate development project for the future. It will be beautiful land. No need to spend a lot of money," the leader said.

On February 9, Mr. Trump reiterated his commitment to "buy and own the Gaza Strip." He suggested that other countries in the Middle East could be assigned to participate in the reconstruction through US sponsorship.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said President Trump's idea was "innovative and revolutionary" and deserved attention. In several interviews over the weekend, Netanyahu said that under President Trump's plan, Palestinians would be able to return to their homes in Gaza after being screened.

Hamas leader in Gaza Khalil al-Hayya said on February 10 that the plans of the West, the US and Mr. Trump for Gaza had failed. "We will bring them down like we brought down other projects before," Mr. al-Hayya said.
