Thanks to his contract with LIV Golf League, Spanish player Jon Rahm's income exceeds the Top 50 highest-earning athletes in the world in 2023 announced by Forbes in May.
Rahm tops the Forbes rankings, the latest edition released, through the estimated value of his playing contract with LIV Golf League from 2024 with the principle of "50% pre-disbursement".
The two sides kept the deadline and financial benefits for Rahm secret when announcing the information on December 7. However, through private sources, the US media speculated that Rahm would receive at least $400 million from the deal with the arena owned by the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), while the Telegraph (UK) said the figure must be up to $566 million, of which $302 million was advanced.
According to these figures, if the advance payment is taken at the lowest level - 200 million USD, Rahm has a better income than the leading position of the Top 50 highest-earning athletes in the world in 2023, which belongs to football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.

Forbes published this list in mid-May 2023, after combining on- and off-court earnings from early May 2022. On that basis, all three top players are from football, with Ronaldo in first place with $136 million, followed by Lionel Messi with $130 million, Kylian Mbappé in third ($120 million), while the highest ranking for golfer Dustin Johnson ($107 million).
Johnson took this position after joining LIV Golf League in the inaugural 2022 season with an estimated contract value of 125 million USD, also on the principle of 50% advance. All agreements to compete in the Saudi-funded tournament system do not include bonuses from actual performance.
Before moving to the LIV Golf League, Johnson and Rahm were both ranked A on the PGA Tour, as evidenced by their achievements. In the top golf arena in the US, Johnson won 24 cups, including two majors – the US Open and the Masters, while Rahm had nine, but also won the two prestigious tournaments after Johnson.
On the world men's professional golf rankings, Johnson has accumulated 135 weeks at the top while Rahm has 52 weeks. Johnson, an American born in 1984, is 10 years older than Rahm.
