Vietnam has the advantage
The match between Vietnam and Indonesia at Viet Tri Stadium, within the framework of the third match of Group B - Southeast Asian Football Championship (AFF Cup) 2024, will take place at 8:00 p.m. tonight (December 15). This is the first match of coach Kim Sang-sik and his team "returning to their new home" in the biggest tournament in the region.
According to football fans, the match between Vietnam and Indonesia is very important. The result of this match will decide which team will win the ticket to the semi-finals of the AFF Cup 2024 as the top team in Group B. Therefore, both teams are very determined to achieve good results.
The match between Vietnam and Indonesia will be broadcast live on VTV and FPT Play platforms.
Vietnam team has a chance to take the top spot from Indonesia
In this match, the Vietnamese team holds a big advantage, especially playing at home. In addition, coach Kim Sang-sik and his team also have a break from the second match and only stay in place to practice and study their opponents for 6 days. Meanwhile, the Indonesian team has to face a rather tight travel schedule, having to fly back and forth between countries to compete.
The Indonesian team, which already lacks its strongest squad (as many clubs refuse to release their players), has now lost another important player. Accordingly, young talent Marselino Ferdinan received a red card in the previous match (against Laos) and will certainly be absent due to suspension. In many ways, the Indonesian team is at a disadvantage compared to Kim Sang-sik's team.
Hot before G hour
Coach Kim Sang-sik said before the match: "I saw a lot of reporters attending the press conference, which proves how important tomorrow's match is. For Vietnam and Indonesia, this is a match of pride. Indonesia just drew with Laos, meeting Vietnam is an important moment for them to overcome difficulties. But we have prepared our best with a process that has lasted for weeks and months. We will aim for victory."

In response to the opinion that the competition schedule is too dense, it will affect the quality of the teams, Coach Kim Sang-sik said: “The Indonesian team played against Laos on December 12, then went to Vietnam on December 13. The physical condition of the Indonesian players is not at its best, but this is a common difficulty because the teams are competing in the same tournament. The same goes for the Vietnamese team. Right after the match against Indonesia on December 15, we had to go to the Philippines to prepare for the match against the host on December 18. Therefore, I had to have a plan to rotate the squad to ensure the best force.”
Coach Shin Tae-yong said: "The Indonesian team has a tight and difficult match schedule. We play Myanmar away on December 9, then return home to play Laos on December 12, then go to Vietnam on December 13 to prepare for this match. Such a schedule brings a difficult challenge to the players and coaching staff.
We don't have the best squad like the World Cup qualifiers because the ASEAN Cup is not part of the FIFA Days, but I still have many good players to try tomorrow. Indonesia has a good throw-in player, but I don't know how many opportunities he will have to take advantage of that strength in a particular match. However, my top priority is still to take advantage of opportunities for young talents."
Mr. Shin continued: "Vietnam has a full squad and is the strongest team in Group B, while we use a young squad to prepare for the U23 tournaments next year. Obviously, there is a huge difference in the level of competition between the two sides, which means a huge disadvantage awaits Indonesia when meeting Vietnam.
All our available resources are prioritized for the World Cup qualifiers. I hope fans will sympathize with the team and the players if Indonesia does not achieve good results.”
Group B standings after 2 matches
This is a good opportunity for the Vietnamese team to regain the top spot from Indonesia. Currently, the Indonesian team (having played 2 matches) is leading Group B with 4 points and a goal difference of +1. The Vietnamese team (having played 1 match) is second in Group B with 3 points and a goal difference of +3.
Another match in Group B - AFF Cup 2024 also takes place today (December 15) is the competition between Laos and the Philippines. This encounter starts at 5:30 p.m. (Vietnam time), at the Laos National Stadium (capital Vientiane).
