Quang Ninh continues to effectively implement a free therapy model for children with mental disorders.

In recent years, the free psychotherapy model for children with mental disorders (CNTT) of the Quang Ninh Social Work Center (under the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Quang Ninh) has contributed to meeting the community's need for counseling and support for children with mental disorders.

Operating the model has few problems

According to the report on the results of the first 6 months of 2023 and the key tasks and directions for the last 6 months of 2023 of the Quang Ninh Social Work Center, the intervention model and psychological therapy for autistic children, RNTT, facilities and rooms have been equipped in previous stages, so at the present time there is little need to equip additional therapy tools.

In particular, the Center has had experience in implementing the Model for many years, so the operation of the Model has encountered few problems. The Center has had collaborative relationships with many organizations and individuals in the past, so the coordination work has been very favorable.

However, there are still some difficulties, that is, the social work service provided to the vulnerable is a qualitative service. On the other hand, the problems of each subject are different, it is impossible to unify a common service, so it is very difficult to quantify. On the other hand, the documents regulating the tasks and implementation processes of the social work profession are still incomplete, even not synchronized, so they cannot be applied to build economic and technical standards in a synchronous and timely manner.

Supporting inclusive education for autistic children in preschools

The Autistic Children's Family Club was established and operated by the Social Work Center since 2015. Every year, the Club has attracted 40-50 members who are parents with children with autism, RNTT, preschool teachers and autistic children's therapists, RNTT at public units (Maternity and Pediatric Hospital, Mental Health Protection Hospital...), private facilities. The Club aims to equip members with knowledge and skills to effectively carry out therapeutic activities for children at home as well as at units in the province. However, from 2022 to present, the Club has not been funded for operations, making it difficult to maintain the Club, especially inviting experienced experts to provide professional support for the Club.

The intervention model, psychological therapy for autistic children, RNTT, although has been implemented by the Center for many years due to the team of contract workers, but up to now, there are only 03 officials with certificates of training in special education. Meanwhile, this activity requires a lot of workers (one official can only treat one child in a certain period of time). Therefore, promoting and improving the effectiveness of the Model requires more time to train new officials, aiming to have more officials with certificates to ensure and professionally implement the Model.

In the last 6 months of 2023, Quang Ninh Social Work Center continues to do a good job of consulting and assisting vulnerable groups in the community. Effectively deploy the model of screening, free intervention and therapy for autistic children, RNTT at the Center... Advise on the implementation of the Project "Access to initiatives on mental health services due to depression in Vietnam" AIMDIV in Quang Ninh province for the period 2022-2026.

Carry out procedures for printing and publishing handbooks, professional instructions for social workers and question and answer handbooks on early detection and intervention skills for children at risk of developmental delays and autism.

Along with that, the Center will organize 15 training courses on methods of assessing and identifying children with behavioral disorders. Implement 05 training courses on skills to identify and support people with RNTT and autistic children in the community for social work collaborators and grassroots health workers in Tien Yen district and Quang Yen town. At the same time, implement free screening, assessment and treatment activities for autistic children and RNTT at the Center.

Regarding Communication, Training and Community Development, Quang Ninh Social Work Center will implement a number of activities in the Club model "Piloting the connection of comprehensive child care and development services in the community based on the assessment of children's needs" in Ba Che district and Dong Trieu town. Implement life skills teaching activities for children at the Center. Carry out activities, compile documents, lectures on communication and community development, prepare for the implementation of programs and plans in the coming period.
