Vietnam U23 has one captain and four vice-captains at the 2023 Southeast Asian U23 tournament. Goalkeeper Quan Van Chuan holds the captain's armband. The vice-captains are Nguyen Quoc Viet, Khuat Van Khang, Luong Duy Cuong and Dinh Xuan Tien.
Quan Van Chuan was the captain of the U23 Vietnam team at the 32nd SEA Games. The goalkeeper born in 2001 is also the oldest member of the U23 Vietnam team participating in the U23 Southeast Asian tournament.
Quan Van Chuan is the captain of U23 Vietnam.
Luong Duy Cuong is also an important factor of U23 Vietnam at SEA Games 32. This defender's playing experience is also better than most of his teammates. He played 16 matches (started 14 times) in V-League 2023 in the Da Nang Club shirt.
Meanwhile, Nguyen Quoc Viet, Khuat Van Khang and Dinh Xuan Tien are familiar faces of the U19 and U20 Vietnam teams in the last 2 years. They competed in the U20 Asia tournament under the guidance of coach Hoang Anh Tuan, and also attended the 32nd SEA Games, but they are not the options that coach Philippe Troussier prioritizes in the main squad.
The 2023 Southeast Asian U23 Championship will take place in Thailand from August 17 to August 26. There are 10 teams participating in the tournament: U23 Brunei, U23 Cambodia, U23 Indonesia, U23 Laos, U23 Malaysia, U23 Myanmar, U23 Philippines, U23 Thailand, U23 Timor Leste and U23 Vietnam.
The teams are divided into 3 groups. The top team in each group and the second-placed team with the best record will advance to the semi-finals. U23 Vietnam is in Group C with U23 Philippines and U23 Laos.
The U23 Vietnam team participating in the tournament has the largest number of players from the same age group. Of the 26 players that coach Hoang Anh Tuan brought to Thailand, only 6 are over 20 years old: Nguyen Van Viet, Vu Minh Hieu, Luong Duy Cuong, Quan Van Chuan, Nguyen Minh Quang, Nguyen Ngoc Thang and Pham Dinh Duy.
