Speaking before the Indonesian Parliament, Mr. Yodo said that first of all, the military will not choose sides or support any political parties and candidates, and will avoid participating in political activities.
Second, TNI pledges not to provide infrastructure and facilities to any political party and candidate for use in election campaigns.
Third, family members of soldiers will not entice people to vote for candidates they like.
The fourth point, Mr. Yodo emphasized, concerns the prohibition of commenting, including on social media, on the quick vote count results announced by polling organizations.
Finally, the TNI pledged to take strong action against soldiers found to be involved in political activities, or supporting political parties and candidates.
The Indonesian military has issued a manual to soldiers on ensuring TNI's neutrality during the election, as well as issued internal regulations and regularly promoted the importance of maintaining neutrality.
