New solution to handle the case of a teacher asking for donations to buy a computer

Báo Dân tríBáo Dân trí01/10/2024

On the morning of October 1, Mr. Vo Cao Long - Head of the Department of Education and Training (GD&DT) of District 1, Ho Chi Minh City - quickly exchanged information with the press about the incident of a teacher asking parents to support money to buy a personal computer (laptop) that occurred at Chuong Duong Primary School, causing outrage in recent times.

According to Mr. Long, the leaders of District 1 have met and agreed to resolutely handle cases of law violations (if any), not cover up violations. The handling will be done publicly, transparently, and clarify public information.

To ensure the best learning conditions for students, the Board of Directors of Chuong Duong Primary School agreed to assign Ms. Dinh Thi Kim Thoa - Vice Principal of the school - to replace Ms. Truong Phuong Hanh in charge of teaching students of class 4/3 this morning.

Teacher Kim Thoa has been an excellent teacher for many years and has been awarded many certificates of merit at all levels.

Since yesterday afternoon, Ms. Thoa has actively participated in interacting with the class's parent group. The school board has issued a decision assigning Ms. Thoa to take charge of class 4/3.

Previously, the school planned to arrange for a guest teacher to replace Ms. Truong Phuong Hanh during her suspension.

In addition, the Board of Directors of Chuong Duong Primary School quickly established a working group including representatives of the Department of Education and Training, the Party Committee, the School Board of Directors, the School Union, and the People's Inspectorate to meet and contact teacher Hanh on the evening of September 30.

"The school's board of directors has asked teacher Truong Phuong Hanh to clarify the content related to her that is being uploaded on social networks and submit it before 9:00 a.m. on October 3," Mr. Long informed.

Through the above incident, Mr. Long said that the People's Committee of District 1 has assigned relevant units to coordinate and promptly advise on the inspection of revenue and expenditure at the beginning of the school year of schools in the area.

"After this incident, in the near future, I will direct the assignment of personnel to monitor, share and grasp the content of educational institutions in the area to promptly remove difficulties and handle arising issues," said Head of the Department of Education and Training Vo Cao Long.

According to Dan Tri reporters, this morning, 36/38 students of grade 4/3 returned to school, while 2 children were absent due to illness. This number has increased significantly compared to September 30 when only 24 children went to school.

The reason for the large number of students absent from school is that parents have not received official information about the arrangement of a replacement teacher for Ms. Truong Phuong Hanh. Many parents themselves do not feel secure sending their children to school.

The above actions were taken after the uproar when teacher Truong Phuong Hanh asked parents for money to buy a computer; at the same time, she used inappropriate words when speaking.

In an internal school meeting, Ms. Truong Phuong Hanh said: "I am straightforward, so people don't like me. Only understanding, educated parents like me. I only associate with those parents, and I don't associate with parents from the streets."

The female teacher continued: "In this Cau Kho ward, there are only a few educated people. They talk in a different way, in the morning they call me and say one thing, in the afternoon they say another... They change their minds more than rice paper... Each homeroom teacher has their own suffering."

The above actions of the teacher have caused outrage in public opinion. Currently, Ms. Truong Phuong Hanh has been temporarily suspended from work for a period of 15 days. The reason is to verify and clarify the complaint, stabilize the situation of parents and students while considering disciplinary action.
