On the afternoon of March 28, in Hanoi, Party Central Committee member, Party Committee Secretary, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Dang Quoc Khanh and Party Central Committee member, Party Central Committee Secretary of the Vietnam Women's Union, President of the Vietnam Women's Union Ha Thi Nga signed the Program of coordination in Propagating and mobilizing women and people to participate in the management of domestic solid waste for the period 2024 - 2027. Attending the signing ceremony were representatives of the professional agencies of the two agencies.
Accordingly, the purpose of the signing between the two agencies is to promote the role of women in activities to support the effective implementation of domestic solid waste management nationwide through propaganda, dissemination, guidance, and model building on domestic solid waste management, especially the content of classifying domestic solid waste in households and individuals to raise awareness and form habits of people in classifying domestic solid waste, thereby minimizing generation, promoting recycling, considering waste as a resource, building a circular economy and ensuring a sustainable environment.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, President of the Vietnam Women's Union Ha Thi Nga said that, deeply aware of the important role of women in environmental protection, the Vietnam Women's Union identified environmental protection as one of the key tasks carried out over many terms, through the Campaign "Building a family of 5 no, 3 clean"; the National Target Program on New Rural Construction; the "Anti-plastic waste" movement.
Many good practices and creative models have been actively implemented by the Association at all levels such as collecting, classifying, and treating waste; recycling plastic waste... which have been actively contributing to creating changes in awareness and environmental protection actions of each cadre, member, woman and community; affirming the role and responsibility of women and the Association in environmental protection.
Chairwoman of the Vietnam Women's Union Ha Thi Nga said that the signing ceremony of the cooperation program between the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the Vietnam Women's Union is a very meaningful work, a concretization of the National Environmental Protection Strategy to 2030 with a vision to 2050, contributing to the implementation of the provisions of the Law on Environmental Protection 2020 on the classification of domestic solid waste at source.
On the part of the Vietnam Women's Union, we will commit to: continuing to strengthen extensive and practical propaganda and mobilization activities to raise awareness and behavior of women and people in environmental protection in general and waste classification, collection and recycling in particular; proactively building models on environmental protection and classification of domestic solid waste; continuing to research, contribute and propose appropriate policies to help women effectively participate in environmental protection activities; making environmental protection actions and activities, including waste classification at source, a habit and a cultural lifestyle of each family and the whole society.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Dang Quoc Khanh acknowledged that as an organization representing Vietnamese women, the Vietnam Women's Union has always paid attention to directing, actively propagating and mobilizing members and women to participate in environmental protection.
The Vietnam Women's Union is one of the particularly active organizations, leading in environmental protection activities in the community, typically including the practical results from the "Anti-plastic waste" movement that the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the Vietnam Women's Union signed a commitment to implement since 2018.
Minister Dang Quoc Khanh said that many good and creative models and practices of women have been built, maintained and replicated, contributing positively to changes in awareness and actions to protect the environment in the community. Models of women collecting scrap, "turning trash into money", "sorting waste at home", "exchanging plastic waste to buy health insurance"... have affirmed the role of women in contributing to reducing environmental pollution, gradually improving and enhancing the quality of life as well as affirming the companionship of the Vietnam Women's Union with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in this important work.
To continue promoting the role of women in activities supporting the effective implementation of domestic solid waste management nationwide is the purpose of the coordination program between the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the Vietnam Women's Union to carry out propaganda and mobilize women and people to participate in domestic solid waste management in the period 2024 - 2027.
Minister Dang Quoc Khanh said that the coordination program aims to raise awareness and form habits and lifestyles of people of all walks of life in classifying domestic solid waste, minimizing the generation of domestic solid waste, treating and recycling domestic solid waste, through regular implementation of tasks such as: Propagating and disseminating policies, legal regulations, documents on waste management, classification of domestic solid waste; launching a movement to build models of waste classification at source; selecting bright spots and typical examples in waste management, classification of domestic solid waste, etc.
Minister Dang Quoc Khanh believes that the Program for coordinating propaganda and mobilization of women and people to participate in domestic solid waste management in the period of 2024 - 2027 between the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the Vietnam Women's Union will contribute to attracting all people to participate in domestic solid waste management, effectively contributing to environmental protection to achieve the goals of environmental protection and climate change response set forth in the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress.
COORDINATION CONTENT
1. Propagating and disseminating policies, legal regulations, documents on waste management, classification of domestic solid waste at all levels of Women's Unions; on the communication system of the Vietnam Women's Union (Electronic information portal of the Vietnam Women's Union, Vietnam Women's Newspaper, Vietnam Women's Publishing House, Vietnam Women's Museum, Women's Information Sheet, fanpage of the Vietnam Women's Union, fanpage of Green Living Women and fanpage system of provincial/municipal Unions) and on the communication system of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
2. Organize appropriate propaganda activities and events on waste management and classification of domestic solid waste in major environmental campaigns and events such as: World Environment Day (June 5), National Week of Clean Water - Environmental Sanitation (from April 29 to May 6), "Make the World Cleaner" Campaign (3rd week of September every year), "International Day of Zero Waste" (March 30 every year)...
3. Mobilize communities, households, individuals, organizations, and establishments to classify domestic solid waste; develop models for classifying domestic solid waste; select and replicate a number of models, bright spots, and typical examples of waste management and classification of domestic solid waste at establishments for replication nationwide.
4. Organize supervision of the implementation of solid waste classification of households, individual members, and women.
