On March 26, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Dung had a working session with District 6 People's Committee on the Cho Lon night street project.
According to information from the People's Committee of District 6, currently there is no night-time economic activity model in the district, but entertainment activities, food services, and shopping are still taking place every night. Some activities are formed and developed on a small scale, without a professional management unit.
In order to take advantage of the infrastructure and labor resources in the district, as well as solve the above problems, while stimulating consumption, increasing revenue, and attracting tourists to participate in experiential activities, developing a plan to develop the night-time economy associated with tourism is an essential requirement.
Therefore, the People's Committee of District 6 has determined that organizing night economic and cultural activities associated with tourism development at the Binh Tay Trade and Service Center cluster with the Cho Lon night street project will form an attractive destination, attracting people and tourists to have the opportunity to explore and learn more about the typical life of the Chinese community in the Cho Lon area.
According to Ms. Vuong Thanh Lieu - Vice Chairman of District 6 People's Committee, the Cho Lon night street project is associated with the development of district tourism with the highlight being Binh Tay market, a city-level architectural work of art. The further goal is that the night street will connect with the tourist clusters of District 11 and District 5 (Ha Ton Quyen dumpling street, Hai Thuong Lan Ong street, Chau Van Liem street), thereby forming a large tourist area of the City.
Cho Lon Night Street is expected to exploit the sidewalk space of 4 streets: Nguyen Huu Than, Thap Muoi, Le Tan Ke, Tran Binh (around Binh Tay market). The total area of the night street is about 1,510m2, divided into 7 functional areas with 41 stalls, operating from 6pm to midnight every day.
Food trucks, mini handcarts, parking lots, stages, public toilets, miniature landscapes - artistic lighting, community spaces - connecting street art... will be arranged around the night street area.
