Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan attends the 130th anniversary of Hue Central Hospital

NDO - On December 12, Member of the Party Central Committee, Vice President, First Vice President of the Central Emulation and Reward Council Vo Thi Anh Xuan attended the 130th anniversary of Hue Central Hospital (1894-2024).

Also attending were Party Central Committee member, Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan; leaders and former leaders of the Ministry of Health, Thua Thien Hue province through the periods, departments, branches and a large number of officers and staff at the hospital.

At the ceremony, authorized by the President, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan, First Vice President of the Central Emulation and Reward Council, awarded the First Class Labor Medal to Professor, Doctor, People's Physician Pham Nhu Hiep, Director of Hue Central Hospital; at the same time, the Third Class Labor Medal to the Department of Nephrology and Urology and the Department of Pediatrics - Abdominal Emergency (Hue Central Hospital).

Authorized by the Prime Minister, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan, First Vice President of the Central Emulation and Reward Council, presented the Prime Minister's Certificate of Merit to the Hue Central Hospital for its outstanding achievements in successfully performing the first allogeneic bone marrow transplant on a patient with thalassemia major. Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan also presented the Certificate of Merit to the Hue Central Hospital.

Hue Central Hospital is the first Western hospital in Vietnam, established in 1894 by the decree of King Thanh Thai. In 1944, it was officially named Hue Central Hospital. It has now completed 130 years of construction and development. Currently, Hue Central Hospital is a special-class hospital, one of the three largest central hospitals in the country.

The hospital is a prestigious practice facility for universities and medical colleges nationwide, a center for specialized training, guidance and technology transfer to many lower-level hospitals. Many professors, doctors, level II specialists, and resident doctors have been trained and matured here to serve all over the country.

The hospital has established 15 centers, 109 clinical and paraclinical departments, 14 functional rooms, is a practical training facility of Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy, and is also a place to welcome many foreign doctors to research and study.

Over the past 130 years, Hue Central Hospital has become a trusted address for high-quality care and treatment. Every year, there are more than 800,000 patient visits, 180,000 inpatients, and up to 51,000 surgeries. Every year, hundreds of new techniques are updated and implemented at the unit. The rate of successful treatment of difficult cases is always high nationwide.

In particular, in recent years, Hue Central Hospital has continuously made many breakthroughs in the fields of high-tech, specialized treatment. Notably, with over 2,000 successful organ transplants, stem cell transplants, corneal transplants..., the hospital has become one of the major centers successfully performing the "heart, liver, kidney" trio of organ transplants; the success rate of cross-Vietnam heart transplants is 100%.

Autologous bone marrow transplantation, 3D endoscopic surgery, single-port endoscopic surgery and natural orifice surgery are routinely performed; hundreds of new techniques are updated and implemented, and the successful treatment of difficult cases always achieves a high rate nationwide.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan highly appreciated, commended and congratulated the great achievements of the leadership, cadres, civil servants and employees of Hue Central Hospital over the years. Hue Central Hospital is a high-class medical center and a center for training high-quality human resources in Vietnam. The unit is a practice facility for schools and universities in many provinces and cities, and is also a center for training, directing and transferring specialized techniques to lower-level hospitals. This is also a trusted address for implementing international cooperation projects in studying, researching and exchanging experiences, contributing to improving the quality of medical examination and treatment and perfecting the system of equipment and infrastructure.

In order to continuously improve the quality of medical examination and treatment, striving to become a hospital on par with the region and the world, Minister Dao Hong Lan suggested that in the coming time, Hue Central Hospital continue to develop advanced medical techniques, improve the quality of medical examination and treatment in all aspects; build a team of staff "with good medical ethics, deep medical theory, good medical skills for the health of the people", improve the lives, promote passion, and develop the expertise of medical staff.

After 130 years of construction and development, Hue Central Hospital has been awarded the title of Labor Hero in the Renovation Period by the Party and State, the First Class Independence Medal (2nd time) and many other noble titles. The hospital is also proud to receive many prestigious awards; in particular, in 2024, the hospital is one of ten units honored in the "Glory of Vietnam" program.

Professor, Doctor, People's Physician Pham Nhu Hiep, Director of Hue Central Hospital, said that the hospital has identified short-term and long-term goals, needs to take appropriate steps and continue to make continuous efforts to achieve those goals. That is to ensure that people have the right to enjoy high-quality, safe and effective health care services; to be treated equally in health care as well as to ensure the satisfaction of patients and relatives when accessing and using the services.

The hospital is determined to build Hue Central Hospital into a Center of Advanced Medicine, a Center for training high-quality medical human resources, aiming to meet the standards of Southeast Asian and international hospitals according to Resolution No. 54 of the Politburo.
