NDO - Right from the first days of the year of the Snake, the number of emergency cases at Bach Mai Hospital has increased dramatically. Under the pink peach blossoms, stretchers are continuously moving into the hospital's A9 Emergency Center.
Our quick interview with the doctor on duty at the A9 Emergency Center in a small corner next to the emergency area was interrupted and constantly moved by the stretchers that continuously brought in patients.
Doctor Nguyen Nhu Binh, A9 Emergency Center, Bach Mai Hospital informed that during the recent Lunar New Year, the number of patients increased sharply, causing overload pressure on medical staff. As a final-level hospital, Bach Mai Hospital is the last place to receive patients from other levels and localities.
For many medical facilities or some departments, the number of patients during Tet will decrease significantly because people often choose to continue their examination and treatment after the end of the holiday. However, due to their characteristics, the emergency department at most medical facilities must receive a high number of patients throughout the Lunar New Year holiday.
Statistics from the beginning of the holiday until now, every day, the A9 Emergency Center, Bach Mai Hospital has maintained receiving about 300 patients, spread out with many types of diseases, including severe cases transferred from lower levels and mild cases due to people coming to the hospital on their own.
“During the Lunar New Year holiday, many hospitals and lower-level medical centers are closed, so patients flock to frontline hospitals, including the A9 Emergency Center and Bach Mai Hospital, which are at the forefront of the crisis. Although we have prepared and made contingency plans, this year’s sudden increase in the number of patients has put a lot of pressure on us,” said Dr. Nguyen Nhu Binh.
Similarly, at Xanh Pon Hospital, the number of patients admitted in the first days of the year of At Ty also increased by about 30% compared to normal days. In particular, the number of emergency examinations and surgeries increased by 20% compared to the same period.
Medical work during Tet was ensured with 548,151 medical examinations and emergencies, 194,457 hospitalizations and 19,262 surgeries, of which 3,275 were emergency cases due to accidents.
This year, the number of patients hospitalized due to alcohol poisoning and traffic accidents has decreased compared to previous years, according to the assessment from the A9 Emergency Center, Bach Mai Hospital.
To meet people's healthcare needs, hospitals have deployed 4 levels of staff, ensuring 24/7 professional operations before, during and after Tet.
In the first days of the year, everywhere are wishes for a prosperous and peaceful new year, filled with the Tet atmosphere. However, at medical facilities, doctors and medical staff are still very urgent and maintain continuous work to take care of people's health.
