Economic development increases people's income

In recent years, Ai Thuong commune (Ba Thuoc) has exploited the potential and strengths of the locality, implemented synchronously, diversified and effectively implemented economic development solutions, created products to increase income for people. Thanks to that, people's lives have been increasingly improved, the appearance of the countryside has changed a lot.

Ai Thuong Commune: Economic development to increase people's income Mr. Nguyen Van Quang's family, in Thung Tam village, Ai Thuong commune, converted ineffective agricultural land to livestock farming combined with growing fruit trees and forestry trees with high economic value.

Previously, on an area of more than 4 hectares of garden land, Mr. Nguyen Van Quang's family in Thung Tam village only grew agricultural crops but the productivity and output were low. Thanks to the commune's policy of converting ineffective agricultural land to growing fruit trees and forestry trees with economic value, Mr. Quang boldly renovated the garden land to grow fruit trees, such as grapefruit, dragon fruit, longan, guava and planting forests combined with raising chickens, pigs...; after deducting expenses, his family earns nearly 280 million VND each year.

As one of the households that converted barren hills and mixed crops to develop the economy from a production model combining agriculture, forestry and livestock, in recent years, Mr. Vi Van Yen's family in Tom village has focused on investing and taking care of 4 hectares of bamboo land, 5 sao of sugarcane land and 5 sao of rice land, bringing in an annual income of 190 million VND/year. In addition, his family also purchases bamboo and bamboo poles from households in the commune to sell to agents.

Ms. Vo Thi Ly, Secretary of the Party Committee of Ai Thuong Commune, said: Implementing the agricultural production restructuring program according to the Resolution of the 24th Party Congress of the Commune, term 2020-2025 on implementing key programs "Comprehensive agricultural development associated with the new rural construction program", in recent times, the Party Committee of Ai Thuong Commune has issued specialized resolutions on economic development, thereby setting out specific goals, tasks and solutions with the actual conditions of the locality. At the same time, directing the People's Committee of the commune, departments, branches and organizations to actively propagate and mobilize people to change the structure of crops and livestock; apply scientific and technical advances in production, create products and goods for the market, and at the same time create conditions for people to access loans for economic development. Thanks to that, economic efficiency per unit area has increased. In 2020, the whole commune had 623 hectares of cultivated land, the output of grain crops reached more than 1,730 tons, by the end of 2023 it will increase to 641.2 hectares with a total food output of 1,945.7 tons; the average product value per hectare of cultivated land is estimated at 102 million VND.

Along with that, Ai Thuong commune has implemented support mechanisms, encouraging people to invest in building farms and livestock farms associated with solutions to ensure environmental hygiene. Up to now, the whole commune has formed and expanded many farm and livestock models with various types of livestock, such as: buffalo, cows, goats, pigs, poultry of all kinds... Currently, the total herd of livestock and poultry in the commune is more than 50 thousand heads; fresh meat output reaches 786 tons/year; aquaculture area reaches 56.94 hectares, with total aquaculture output estimated at 183 tons. The income of farms and livestock farms reaches 200 - 400 million VND/model/year.

In addition, Ai Thuong commune also focuses on developing small-scale industry, services, and trade, mobilizing resources to invest in building electricity and road infrastructure; creating conditions for people to borrow capital for production and business, developing diverse industries such as agricultural processing, mechanics, civil carpentry, etc. From the strong leadership and direction of the Party Committee and implementing synchronous and effective solutions in economic development, promoting restructuring of agricultural production, the average income per capita in 2023 of Ai Thuong commune reached nearly 50 million VND; striving for an average income per capita of 56 million VND in 2024; the poverty rate reduced to 2.3%.

With the determination to complete the targets set out in the congress resolution for the 2020-2025 term, the Party Committee, government and people of all ethnic groups in Ai Thuong commune are continuing to promote the tradition of solidarity, self-reliance, proactiveness, creativity, maximizing resources, exploiting local potentials and advantages to develop the economy, sustainably reduce poverty and build new rural areas.
