Ngoc Lac district currently has nearly 23,000 hectares of forest land. This is considered an advantage for the district to develop forestry, associated with forest product processing. Ms. Pham Thi Ha, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ngoc Lac district, said: The district has directed communes and towns to propagate and mobilize people to actively plant production forests, implement legal provisions on forestry economic development associated with processing; policies on developing large timber forests and intensive farming, renovating and restoring bamboo forests. At the same time, the district effectively implements support policies according to Resolution 185/2021/NQ-HDND of the Provincial People's Council on promulgating policies on agricultural, rural and farmer development in Thanh Hoa province, period 2022-2025. From 2022 to present, the whole district has restored 300 hectares of bamboo in Van Am, Thuy Son and Thach Lap communes; newly planted 400 hectares of acacia. The district coordinates with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to open training courses, transfer science and technology on planting, caring for, and developing forests; techniques on restoring and intensively cultivating bamboo forests. Strictly manage the quality of forestry seedlings of facilities and nurseries in the area. Plan and invest in developing raw material areas for forest product processing; effectively implement joint ventures and associations between processing facilities and forest growers. Encourage people to invest in developing long-cycle production forests and renovating and converting small timber forests to large timber forests. Up to now, the district has 11,000 hectares of acacia, 5,000 hectares of bamboo, each year people in the district exploit 6.6 million bamboo trees, over 3,000 hectares of acacia. According to calculations, 1 hectare of acacia has a cycle of 5-7 years, bringing in an income of 70-80 million VND; a cycle of 10 years, bringing in an income of 110 million VND. In 2024, the value of forestry production is estimated to reach 238 billion VND, creating jobs for thousands of local workers.
However, most of the production forest area is small timber, mainly sold to traders in and outside the province; the forest area granted international FSC certification is still small... Currently, in Ngoc Lac district, there is only 1 forest product processing enterprise, but the scale is small, the main products are peeled boards and wood chips for export, there are no deep-processed products, the rest are mostly small-scale processing facilities...
To increase the value of forests, Ngoc Lac district is promoting the work of zoning, reforestation, and planting production forests, especially forests according to FSC international standards, associated with exploitation and processing. Focusing on developing production forests in the direction of planting new varieties with productivity and quality suitable to local farming conditions. Building large timber forest raw material areas to promote processing and export. In addition, attracting investment in linking forest planting, forest exploitation, purchasing raw materials, processing and consuming products according to the value chain. There are many mechanisms and policies to encourage forest product processing enterprises, especially deep-processed forest products, with modern production lines, saving raw materials, associated with environmental protection, linking with cooperatives and forest owners to increase the value of the forestry industry and create jobs, increase income for forest growers...
