DTO - Within the framework of the 2nd Mekong Delta Startup Forum in 2024, on the afternoon of November 15, a discussion took place with the theme "Mekong Green Tourism Initiative".

The seminar was chaired by Ms. Huynh Thi Hoai Thu - Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dong Thap province; Mr. Nguyen Hoai Bao - Chairman of the Board of Members of Wildbird Company Limited; Dr. Bui Thanh Minh - Deputy Director of the Office of Division IV. The event was attended by experts, representatives of leaders of the Departments of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Departments of Tourism of the Mekong Delta provinces, Associations, enterprises, startups of tourist areas and destinations of the Mekong Delta provinces and cities...

At the seminar, Dr. Duong Duc Minh - Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Institute for Economic and Tourism Development Research shared about "Opportunities and challenges in developing green tourism in the Mekong Delta and "space" for innovative models in the direction of green economy". As a consultant for projects implementing green tourism models in Ho Chi Minh City and the provinces of Tra Vinh, Dong Nai and Dong Thap, Dr. Duong Duc Minh said that green tourism helps localities make the most of natural and cultural factors, thereby building a unique tourism image, protecting the environment and promoting indigenous cultural values.

Accordingly, Dr. Duong Duc Minh proposed a number of solutions to connect and open up creative innovation spaces to build tourism value chains and implement unique tourism models. Regarding the orientation of co-creating green tourism products in the Mekong Delta, Mr. Duong Duc Minh said that it is necessary to implement based on two platforms: "experience together" and "remember together". Accordingly, creating empathy signals for tourists to immerse themselves in the natural and humane tourism space and creating nostalgic signals for tourists to have a deeper understanding of the Mekong Delta.

Concerned and pioneering with the idea of ​​tourism combining agriculture, indigenous culture, and natural landscapes, Dr. Ngo Kieu Oanh - Agricultural tourism expert of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) introduced the model of "Smart salt tourism associated with digital transformation of rural communities in Bac Lieu" with certain successes. Especially preserving the traditional salt making profession with 2 unique products, rich in nutritional value including: pink brown salt and salted purslane. In that spirit, Dr. Ngo Kieu Oanh made some recommendations on agricultural tourism development such as investigating agricultural and rural tourism resources by ecological region, core products brought to sustainable development areas according to the requirements of green tourism. Especially building a scientific and fundamental planning to create an agricultural tourism map in the Mekong Delta region. This is also the foundation for the tourism industry to develop agricultural tourism routes and destinations.

Aiming at developing green tourism, at the seminar, delegates shared 15 ideas related to supporting policy mechanisms; cooperation and connection between tourist destinations to form a tourism service chain. Notably, startups also shared many solutions on developing green tourism, including promoting the exploitation of by-products in agricultural production to both increase revenue and serve the development of green tourism; using natural products; combining indigenous resources with regional culture into tourism products...

At the seminar, Dr. Bui Thanh Minh - Deputy Director of Office IV introduced to the delegates the "Mekong Green Transformation Network Initiative".
