Sharing with delegates attending the conference, Mr. Do Van Thua - Deputy Head of the Department of Fisheries of Soc Trang province shared that by the end of the first quarter of 2025, the total aquaculture area of the province is estimated at 7,254 hectares, 17% higher than the same period last year, of which brackish water shrimp is estimated to be stocked on 5,100 hectares (500 hectares of black tiger shrimp, 4,600 hectares of white-leg shrimp), 18% higher than the same period last year, damaged shrimp accounts for 0.8% of the stocking area. Fish of all kinds are estimated to be stocked on 1,704 hectares and other aquatic products on 450 hectares. Estimated harvest output is 22,113 tons, of which brackish water shrimp is 10,157 tons; fish of all kinds is 11,316 tons, other aquatic products is 640 tons. Regarding the issuance of registration certificates for key farming objects (Decree No. 37/2024/ND-CP) in the first quarter of 2025, the Department of Fisheries has focused on developing a plan on controlling impurities and issuing key codes, through organizing propaganda to farmers about the work of issuing codes, protecting the environment in aquaculture and coordinating with the People's Committees of communes with shrimp farming to compile a list of farming households and farming areas as a basis for assessment and implementation of code issuance in the second quarter of 2025. At the conference, delegates listened to experts introduce farming models, in order to diversify aquaculture objects, shrimp farming households need to consider choosing in the same shrimp farming season such as: raising snakehead fish, raising tilapia with raising shrimp in ponds, raising barramundi, goby fish, raising tilapia in specialized and intercropping farming and researching the farming of tilapia without the smell of mud or grass when selling and testing the farming of blood cockles and mussels in the shrimp farming area of My Xuyen district; taking advantage of the favorable conditions that aquaculture households have to develop circular aquaculture. Minh Phu Seafood Company's plan to implement the shrimp-rice model in Soc Trang province to achieve ASC certification and the company's support when households participate in the model; the company's shrimp purchasing policy in the shrimp farming model achieving ASC certification...
In the second quarter of 2025, the province's aquaculture area is planned to be 41,340 hectares, of which brackish water shrimp farming area is 30,000 hectares, total aquatic and seafood output is 131,700 tons, of which aquaculture output is 97,100 (brackish water shrimp is 52,200 tons), exploitation output is 34,600 tons. To achieve the aquaculture plan in the second quarter, the provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment will hold thematic conferences in key shrimp farming areas of the province. Timely inform farmers about developments in prices, environment, weather and diseases on shrimp.
