Kinhtedothi- Through patrolling and controlling in late October 2024, the Quang Son Inter-commune Forest Ranger Station discovered a case of illegal deforestation in sub-area 1679 managed by the People's Committee of Quang Son commune, Dak Glong district.

About 5 km from the residential area is the area of forest destroyed, the road has been leveled to serve the travel process, vehicles can go up to the site to approach the scene. Some areas next to the scene have been raised, creating three levels to plant industrial trees.

At the scene, according to the reporter's records, the trees that were cut down still had green leaves and fresh trunks; the bamboo trees that were cut down had wilted leaves that turned dark brown, and some leaves were still green. This proves that the incident happened recently.

Accordingly, the area of forest destroyed is relatively large, 1,988 hectares. Belonging to lots 21, 28, 29, section 8, Sub-area 1679. With the current damage status of 100%. According to the Map attached to Decision No. 361/QD-UBND dated January 30, 2024 of Dak Glong District People's Committee, on approving data on forest changes and land for forest development planning in Dak Glong District up to December 31, 2023, this area belongs to the production forest planning, the current status is poor evergreen forest.

The area of destroyed forest in the area is assigned to the People's Committee of Quang Son commune for management.

In an exchange with the Dak Glong - Gia Nghia Inter-District Forest Protection Department, it was learned that the violator has not yet been identified. Considering the case has signs of crime, on October 26, 2024, the Dak Glong - Gia Nghia Inter-District Forest Protection Department invited the Investigation Police Agency - Dak Glong District Police, Dak Glong District People's Procuracy, Dak Glong District Land Registration Office Branch, and Quang Son Commune People's Committee to organize a scene investigation of the destroyed forest area.

The headquarters of Dak Glong - Gia Nghia Inter-district Forest Protection Department is located in Dak Glong district, Dak Nong province.

For the above illegal deforestation incident, the Dak Glong - Gia Nghia Inter-District Forest Protection Department requested the Dak Glong District People's Committee to review, clarify, and handle the responsibility of the Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Son Commune and the Forestry Board of Quang Son Commune. At the same time, regarding the responsibility of the Forest Protection Officer in charge of the area (forest managed by the Commune People's Committee), the Dak Glong - Gia Nghia Inter-District Forest Protection Department will organize a review and handle the responsibility according to regulations.

Regarding this incident, in an interview with PV, Mr. Le Dinh Tuan, Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Son Commune, said that the local government took responsibility for the illegal deforestation in lots 21, 28, 29, section 8, Sub-area 1679 managed by the People's Committee of Quang Son Commune. However, the incident happened partly because Quang Son Commune is located 56 km from the center of Dak Glong District and is the commune with the second largest natural area, forest area, and forestry land in Dak Nong Province.

Mr. Tuan added, “Due to the scattered forest conditions, interspersed with land areas that have been encroached upon for many years to grow industrial crops and use for other purposes, forest management, protection and development are very difficult. In addition, unplanned migrants are still regularly coming to the locality and the sharp increase in prices of many key agricultural products has put the locality under a lot of pressure.”

Some forest areas in Quang Son commune show signs of decline.

Currently, the People's Committee of Quang Son commune requests that the authorities clarify the responsibilities of each collective and individual involved in the deforestation and will handle them according to the provisions of the law.

It is known that the People's Committee of Quang Son commune is also a forest owner with a total area of forest and forestry land assigned to manage and protect more than 4,300 hectares. Of which, about 1,100 hectares are natural forests and planted forests. The remaining area is mainly land that has been encroached upon or converted to agricultural land.
