Overview of the Forum |
Opening the Forum, Chairman of the Provincial Cooperative Union Tran Van Cuong reviewed the history of formation and development of the collective economic sector and cooperatives in Vietnam; the tradition of 79 years of Vietnam Cooperative Day (April 11, 1946 - April 11, 2025). Accordingly, President Ho Chi Minh was the first person to bring the idea of cooperative economics to Vietnam. Immediately after the successful August Revolution, on April 11, 1946, President Ho Chi Minh wrote a letter calling on Vietnamese landlords and farmers to participate in agricultural cooperatives. After 19 years, recognizing the great contributions of the collective economic sector and cooperatives in the country's reconstruction, on April 11, 1964, Uncle Ho sent a letter to the Congress of cooperatives and advanced agricultural production teams in the mountainous and midland areas, praising typical and advanced cooperatives, requesting all levels and sectors to pay attention to directing the development of agricultural cooperatives. Since then, the collective economic sector and cooperatives have developed strongly in both the agricultural and non-agricultural sectors, attracting millions of people to participate. April 11th of each year is recognized as Vietnam Cooperative Day in Decision No. 1268/QD-TTg dated July 27, 2011 of the Government. Through many stages of development, the collective economic sector and cooperatives have made important contributions to the protection and development of the country.
