Authorities transport infected pigs for destruction.
Previously, at around 8:30 p.m. on July 21, 2024, the working group of Ham Yen Traffic Police Station, located in Ao Ve village, Thai Hoa commune (Ham Yen), while performing the task of checking and controlling vehicles participating in traffic, discovered a truck with license plate 29F-060.05 traveling in the direction of Ha Giang - Tuyen Quang transporting 81 animals (pigs) showing signs of infection.
Upon inspection, the vehicle owner could not present any documents related to the goods, nor did he have an animal quarantine certificate from a specialized agency. Some of the animals were dead. The vehicle owner claimed that the goods were purchased in Ha Giang and transported to Hanoi for consumption.
The working group reported to Ham Yen District Police, Market Management Department, Department of Animal Husbandry, Veterinary and Aquatic Products to take samples of goods and send them to the Central Veterinary Diagnosis Center for analysis. The results showed that 3/3 samples were positive for African swine fever.
Authorities inspected and discovered infected pigs being transported for consumption.
As soon as the analysis results were available, all infected pigs were destroyed according to regulations, ensuring disease safety.
To protect public health, the Department of Animal Husbandry, Veterinary and Fisheries recommends that localities closely monitor the development of livestock herds, especially pigs; absolutely do not transport, slaughter, or consume sick pigs, which will spread the epidemic virus and affect livestock farming.
If people discover violators of the consumption and slaughter of sick pigs, they must immediately report to the relevant authorities for handling in accordance with the law.
