(Dan Tri) - On her way to work, a woman in Quang Nam discovered an animal that looked like a rare golden-fronted box turtle in a field and brought it to the police to hand it over.
On the afternoon of December 28, Dai Dong Commune Police (Dai Loc District, Quang Nam Province) handed over a rare yellow-fronted box turtle to the Northern Quang Nam Forest Protection Department.
Two days earlier, Ms. Le Thi Hong (born in 1980, residing in Dai Dong commune, Dai Loc district, Quang Nam province), discovered an animal resembling a yellow-fronted box turtle in a field in Phuoc Dinh village, Dai Dong commune.
The woman then brought the turtle to Dai Dong Commune Police Station to hand it over because she believed it was a rare turtle species.
Through initial inspection, Dai Dong Commune Police determined that the animal handed over by Ms. Hong had characteristics similar to the yellow-fronted box turtle, weighing 1kg and measuring 25cm in total length.
The police handed over the turtle to the Northern Quang Nam Forest Ranger Department for handling according to regulations.
Dai Dong Commune Police also praised Ms. Hong's actions and called on people to quickly go to the nearest police station to report and hand over any strange, rare, or precious animals they discover.
Authorities recommend that people do not arbitrarily raise, confine, or hunt endangered, precious, or rare animals on the banned list.
