Must be selective in attracting investment

“Focus on attracting investment, managing industry development according to planning and plans; pay attention to calling for capable, experienced and dedicated investors to implement tourism projects in Binh Thuan province”.

That was one of the guiding opinions of comrade Duong Van An - Member of the Party Central Committee - Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee - Head of the National Assembly Delegation at the Conference to review Resolution No. 06 of the Provincial Party Committee (term XIV) on tourism development to 2025, with a vision to 2030, organized by the Binh Thuan Provincial Party Committee on the morning of November 14.

Attending and chairing the conference were comrades: Duong Van An - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the National Assembly Delegation, Nguyen Hoai Anh - Alternate Member of the Party Central Committee, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; Doan Anh Dung - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee. The conference was also attended by comrades of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee; Vice Chairmen of the Provincial People's Council and People's Committee; leaders of departments, branches, and districts, towns and cities in the province.

Bright Spot

Speaking at the opening of the conference, Comrade Nguyen Hoai Anh - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee emphasized that tourism is a comprehensive economic sector, with inter-sectoral, inter-regional and highly internationally integrated characteristics. Tourism not only makes an important contribution to socio-economic development but also has profound cultural and social factors. Therefore, in the strategic development orientation of Binh Thuan province, tourism is a key economic sector and one of the three economic pillars of the province. To achieve that goal, on October 24, 2021, the Provincial Party Committee issued Resolution 06 on tourism development to 2025, with a vision to 2030.

Accordingly, Resolution No. 06 inherits the viewpoints, objectives, tasks and solutions of previous resolutions with the goal of striving to: how to raise the status of Binh Thuan tourism, attract more tourists to Binh Thuan province, stay longer, use more services, return more times; build Mui Ne National Tourist Area to become one of the leading destinations in the Asia - Pacific region, creating momentum to spread to other areas in the province.

After 2 years of implementing Resolution No. 06, the awareness of all levels, sectors, cadres and people about the role of the tourism industry has been raised, there have been efforts and determination to develop the province's tourism industry quite comprehensively and effectively. The number of tourists to the province increased by an average of 16.28%/year, of which international visitors increased by an average of 2.07 times/year; domestic visitors increased by an average of 14.8%/year. Total revenue from tourists increased by an average of 16.56%/year. It is estimated that in 2023, Binh Thuan will welcome about 8.3 million visitors, of which international visitors will reach about 220,000, domestic visitors will reach about 8,080,000. Total revenue from tourists is about 19,500 billion VND. Tourism GRDP reached 9,750 billion VND, accounting for 9.11% of the province's total GRDP. Binh Thuan is in the top 10 provinces with tourism revenue of over 10 trillion VND. The successful organization of the Opening Ceremony and activities of the National Tourism Year 2023 "Binh Thuan - Green Convergence" is a great opportunity for Binh Thuan tourism to become a bright spot in the development of tourism in the Central region and the whole country in the coming time.

There are still limitations and shortcomings

Besides the above results, Binh Thuan tourism still has many limitations and weaknesses. Although the number of visitors and revenue has increased, the tourism industry is still "slow" and lagging behind localities with traditions and strengths in tourism and some emerging localities in tourism. For example, in terms of infrastructure serving tourism, the province has not yet been invested synchronously and completely. Attracting investment in large-scale projects, tourist complexes, high-class resorts associated with tourism, entertainment, trade, services, and sports has not been much. In addition, the implementation of tourism projects in many areas in the province is very slow, or there are still many projects that have not been implemented, wasting land resources, causing difficulties and obstacles in management.

Furthermore, although tourism products have improved, they have not created a breakthrough and have not had a strong attraction for tourists. The core values of relics, cultural and historical heritages, landscapes and scenic spots have not been promoted in promoting and attracting tourists to visit and travel; professionalism in tourism activities is not high. Environmental sanitation in some places is not good, especially the situation of waste and wastewater in tourist areas, beaches, residential areas, and public places... The situation of street vendors, stalking and soliciting tourists, raising prices, cheating... has damaged Binh Thuan's tourism destination. The work of promoting and advertising Binh Thuan tourism on the media system, social networks, digital technology... is not regular...

At the conference, delegates focused on thoroughly evaluating the achieved results, pointing out limitations and shortcomings, and at the same time drawing lessons and proposing tasks and solutions to continue to focus on better implementing the Resolution in the coming time.

It's time to attract selective investment

Speaking at the conclusion of the conference, Provincial Party Secretary Duong Van An emphasized: "Is it because we have been crowned the resort capital for a long time that we have fallen asleep in our victory, we are intoxicated and proud of that, lacking calculation, lacking planning, lacking orientation for tourism development?" The Secretary also asked the question, "Or are we facing the obstacles that we have been talking about for a long time, which are bottlenecks in overlapping titanium planning, lack of external traffic... and then looking back, we are being surpassed by other localities."

Comrade Duong Van An - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee gave a speech directing the Conference.

“This year, we have a quick recovery, a large number of visitors. We are one of the 10 localities with a high number of visitors to the tourist area. But where does that result come from? Is it due to external factors? Is it the highway, the demand after a period of not being able to travel due to the pandemic, or have we renewed and improved the quality of new tourism services to create stable, sustainable, and unique values to attract tourists? Next year, will the number of visitors be the same as this year? We must also calculate these things, we must not be subjective. We must not get drunk on victory,” the Provincial Party Secretary shared.

In the coming time, to more successfully implement the goals in Resolution 06, the Provincial Party Secretary requested that all levels, sectors and localities need to closely follow the viewpoints, goals, tasks and main solutions in Resolution 06 to implement them thoroughly and effectively. In particular, focus on attracting investment, managing industry development according to planning and plans; pay attention to calling for capable, experienced, reputable and dedicated investors to implement tourism projects in Binh Thuan province...

The Provincial Party Secretary also requested to focus on investing in completing the infrastructure system to serve tourism development, including expanding the synchronous and connecting transportation system to key areas and points in the area to increase attraction and call for investment in developing new types of services, comprehensive tourism areas, shopping centers, large-scale entertainment tourism, to attract tourists. Pay attention to key tourist destinations in the province. Build and renovate urban and rural areas, clean, modern, civilized. Friendly, hospitable people, especially preserving environmental sanitation. Strengthen tourism promotion on the media network system, social networks; innovate attractive and impressive propaganda content methods. Promote the building of Binh Thuan brand, raise the level of Binh Thuan tourism.
