US President Donald Trump said Canada, China and Mexico cannot avoid tariffs that Washington plans to impose on goods from these countries from February 1.
On January 31, in response to a reporter's question about whether the three countries could do anything to prevent the imposition of tariffs, Mr. Trump affirmed: "No, not at this time. This is purely an economic issue. We have a large deficit with all three countries."
"One country is shipping massive amounts of fentanyl, killing hundreds of thousands of people every year. The other two countries are facilitating the entry of this poison," Mr. Trump added.
According to Mr. Trump, the US is not looking for concessions when imposing these tariffs.
On the same day, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced that President Trump will impose a 25% tariff on imports from Canada and Mexico, and a 10% tariff on goods from China, effective February 1.
