Mr Putin described the attack as a terrorist response to Russia's attack on the Ukrainian military intelligence service in Kyiv a few days ago.

Mr Putin said Ukraine had chosen the path of trying to “threaten Russia, Russian citizens and attack residential buildings”. He also said air defences around Moscow would be strengthened.

Mr. Putin made the above statement after RIA Novosti news agency quoted the Russian Defense Ministry as saying that the Ukrainian army used 8 UAVs for the attack that took place in the early morning of May 30. Three UAVs were suppressed by Russian electronic warfare forces, causing them to lose control and deviate from their intended target. The remaining five UAVs were shot down by Russia in the Moscow region using Pantsir-S gun and missile systems.

But Mykhailo Podolyak, an adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, denied direct involvement from Kyiv, although he said Ukraine wanted to see such a scene and expected more such attacks.

Meanwhile, the White House said on May 30 that the US was still gathering information about reports related to the above-mentioned UAV attack on Moscow, reiterating that Washington does not support attacks inside Russian territory, according to Reuters.
