According to Kiev, Russia recently fired more than 90 missiles and about 100 drones in an attack on Ukraine's power grid. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called on allies to respond strongly to Russia.
President Vladimir Putin said the latest bombing was a “ response” to Ukraine’s attack on Russian territory with Western missiles.

The military conflict between Russia and Ukraine is entering its third year and has escalated sharply in recent days as both sides deploy new weapons in a bid to gain the upper hand before US President-elect Donald Trump takes office in January.
" We do not rule out the possibility of using the Oreshnik missile against military, military-industrial or decision-making centers, including in Kiev," Vladimir Putin said at a press conference in the Kazakh capital Astana, referring to the hypersonic missile.
Kiev is the capital region, home to many government buildings, and is heavily guarded, but fears have grown over the past week.
Russia tested its new Oreshnik ballistic missile in Ukraine and the Russian leader said that firing multiple Oreshnik missiles at once would create a force equivalent to a nuclear strike or a " meteorite" attack.
The Kremlin chief added that the attack on Ukraine's power grid was " a response to the continued attack on Russian territory by US ATACMS missiles".
On November 18, the Biden administration authorized Ukraine to use US-made weapons to strike deep into Russian territory, a significant reversal of Washington’s policy in the Ukraine-Russia conflict. Moscow had previously warned that the move to ease restrictions on the use of US weapons in Ukraine was a major escalation.
The move comes two months before President-elect Donald Trump takes office on January 20, 2025. It is unclear whether President-elect Trump will reverse President Joe Biden's decision when he takes office. Trump has long criticized the scale of US financial and military aid to Ukraine and has vowed to quickly end the conflict if elected.
