My grandfather was seriously ill and I couldn't come back to take care of him. When I received the old cloth bag he left before he passed away, I burst into tears.

Visiting my grandfather for the last time, I burst into tears when I received the gift he left for me.

The article is a confession of author Aqi, who is living in Hunan province (China) and shared on page 163.

When I was young, my parents worked far away from home. They only came back to visit me a couple of times a year. So, I spent most of my time with my grandparents. They were the ones who played with me, raised me, and loved me the most. Back then, my family was very poor, and having a meal of meat was a luxury. My grandparents loved me, so they often took advantage of their free time to go out to the fields to catch some fish and shrimp, and brought them home to cook me a bowl of soup to get enough nutrients.

That period of time, although really difficult. My parents were not around, life lacked many things. But for me, that was when I felt the happiest.

After graduating from primary school, due to my good grades, I was able to go to the city to continue my studies. From then on, I only went back to my hometown once a month. Each time, my grandparents cooked delicious food for me and always told me to eat a lot to have the energy to study. Before I went to the city, my grandparents always packed all kinds of things for me to take with me. They were afraid that I would live in poverty there.

Time flew by and I finally finished my university degree. To facilitate my career development, I worked in another city, so I had less time to visit my grandparents. After working for a while, I decided to get married. My husband was a classmate from university. When they found out, both families were happy for us.

A year after getting married, I gave birth to a baby girl. She is now 3 years old. During this time, I did not visit my grandparents often because I was busy with family matters and sometimes with work. Every time I came back, I only knew how to buy many gifts and give them some money.

This July, my grandfather became very ill. When I heard the news, I was extremely worried and immediately asked for a month's leave to take care of him.

What I didn't expect was that he left so quickly. I had been home for two days when he passed away.

Before he passed away, he gave me a cloth bag. I opened it and inside were colorful candies.

My grandmother said that every time he went to a party somewhere, he would not save any of it but bring it back for me. I gave the bag to my daughter.

My heart ached, I couldn't hold back my tears and burst into tears. Although it was just a small thing, to me it was the warm affection he had for me.

Before he passed away, he was much thinner than before. Grandma said he couldn’t eat. He could only eat a little porridge every day. Knowing this, I was even more heartbroken.

After this incident, I realized that no matter how busy I am, I will definitely visit my parents more often. They have devoted their whole life to giving me the best things.

At each stage of life, we have to face more concerns. Everyone has a career, friends, a lover, a family, and other loved ones. Therefore, the love for parents gradually fades into the background. How many times have you told yourself: "Tomorrow when I have free time, I will call my parents. Someday I will go back to my hometown to visit my parents"... There are so many "someday" because we mistakenly think that our parents will always be there waiting for us to come back.

The world of young people is colorful and full of interesting things. But for the elderly, their world is limited to their children and grandchildren. Not many children can be close to their parents, taking care of their parents every meal and sleep like their parents did when we were children.

Time flies, one day, our parents will also leave us. It is an inevitable reality. Don't wait until that cruel day to regret because the real time left can only be counted on the fingers. When your parents are still at home waiting for you every day, spend more time with them.
