Diabetics need to know their health status clearly and apply a healthy diet with reasonable foods to avoid sudden increases in blood sugar.
I am 40 years old and have been diagnosed with high blood sugar for 2 years, the index fluctuates from 6.9 to 7.1 mmol/l after eating 1-2 hours, without needing to take medication. Every day, I still eat and drink sparingly, only white rice, sticky rice, and bread, but this index has not decreased. Please advise which foods are good for people with prediabetes. Thank you! Physician Do Minh Tuan - Hanoi Oriental Medicine Association advises:
Diabetes is becoming more common in life today, increasingly younger. It is not uncommon for you to find your blood sugar at 7 mmo/l at the age of 40. You should control it well to avoid hyperglycemia.
According to statistics from the Ministry of Health, Vietnam has about 7 million people with diabetes. Of which, more than 55% of patients have complications, of which 34% are cardiovascular complications; 39.5% have eye complications and neurological complications; 24% have kidney complications.
Diabetes is considered a chronic disease, with no cure. Patients must take medication and control their diet for life. Prevention and control of blood sugar are extremely important.

Foods considered to be the "nemesis" of blood sugar you can refer to:
First, whole grains
These are considered natural blood sugar stabilizers. These include oats, brown rice, whole grain bread... which are richer in fiber, B vitamins, minerals and antioxidants than refined grains.
Fiber is very good at controlling blood sugar, creating a protective layer in the intestines, slowing down the absorption of sugar, thereby preventing sudden increases in blood sugar. People who do not have the disease and consume whole grains regularly can help reduce the risk of getting it.
Second, healthy fats from plants
Nuts such as almonds, cashews, walnuts... are rich in healthy fats (monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids), protein, fiber, vitamins and minerals.
Nuts help improve blood lipids, reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease - a common complication in people with diabetes. The fiber and high-quality fats in nuts help increase satiety, reduce cravings for foods high in sugar and fat, thereby supporting blood sugar and weight control.
Third, corn silk
This is a discarded part of corn but is a very good medicinal herb for human health. Corn silk is commonly used in traditional medicine and has been proven to be effective in controlling blood sugar and enhancing insulin activity. Corn silk contains flavonoids, polysaccharides and phenolic compounds that help lower blood sugar, improve insulin sensitivity and are anti-oxidants.
You can use corn silk to make daily drinking water or combine it with other herbs such as pandan leaves or stevia.
Wednesday, bitter melon
Bitter melon not only helps purify the body, is good for the liver, and is anti-aging. This fruit is also used as a folk remedy for diabetes. Bitter melon contains charantin, polypeptide-P, and vicine, which effectively reduce blood sugar.
For diabetes, choosing good foods to include in your daily diet is the "key" to living well with the disease.
A good food is eaten in moderation, combined with a healthy lifestyle and increased exercise to achieve the best results in disease prevention and control.
