The latest fundraising event for President Biden’s re-election campaign took place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles (California) on the evening of June 15 (local time), with the participation of Mr. Biden, former President Barack Obama and many Hollywood stars, including Jimmy Kimmel, George Clooney and Julia Roberts. This could be one of Mr. Biden’s last major fundraising events in Los Angeles until Election Day.

Record-breaking fundraising
To attend the fundraising event, thousands of Biden supporters paid from $250 for a seat offstage to $500,000 for a ticket package that included front-row seats, photos with Biden and Obama, and a post-event party with VIPs, according to the Los Angeles Times. In addition, Kimmel, Clooney, and Roberts sent messages asking supporters to donate $20 to watch the fundraising event online.
The June 15 fundraiser raised more than $30 million, the largest single-night fundraiser in Democratic history. It surpassed the record $26 million raised by Biden’s New York campaign on March 28, according to Politico. Biden, Obama, former President Bill Clinton and other celebrities attended the fundraiser.
Biden’s campaign called the event on June 15 the largest Democratic fundraiser in history. Democrats have long viewed the Los Angeles area as a source of deep pockets, while Republicans often decry the national Democratic Party as being funded by Hollywood elites and California liberals. But both Biden and Trump have raised more money in California for their reelection efforts than anywhere else, according to Reuters, citing fundraising records filed with the Federal Election Commission.
Close race
President Biden had previously built up a fundraising advantage in his campaign, but former President Trump has recently quickly surpassed that challenge. The Hill pointed out that Trump’s campaign fundraiser in Florida on April 6 surpassed Biden’s event in New York on the evening of March 28, raising $50.5 million.
Trump also raised $141 million in May, much of it after a New York jury found him guilty on May 30 of all 34 counts of falsifying records to cover up hush money payments to adult film actress Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 election, according to Politico . The Biden campaign has yet to release its total fundraising for May.
Meanwhile, national polls show Biden and Trump tied with less than five months to go before the election, according to Reuters. However, recent polls show Trump holding an advantage in battleground states that are expected to decide the election. In addition, Trump is rated higher than Biden by voters on handling economic issues such as inflation.
