Since 2018, Mr. Nguyen Van Nhi (Quang Thach commune, Quang Trach district, Quang Binh) started building a model of raising free-range chickens. After a while, he established Nhi Nguyen Development Company Limited (Nhi Nguyen Company) and researched new farming directions to increase production efficiency.

Instead of traditional farming, Nhi Nguyen Company has built a chicken farming process towards bio-safety, linking to product consumption to minimize risks, improve efficiency, and bring clean products to consumers. "Our goal is to raise chickens using the natural organic microbiological chicken method to have the best quality," said Mr. Nhi.
The choice of chicken breeds to raise is also different. Mr. Nhi said that all are wild and purebred native chickens restored and preserved by the Animal Husbandry Institute. For wild chickens, the weight of mature hens is from 0.8 to 1kg/bird, and roosters from 1 to 1.2kg/bird. As for native chickens, the weight of mature hens is from 1.2 to 1.7kg/bird, and roosters from 1.5 to 2kg/bird.
Taking us to the garden, under the shade of the trees is a place where more than a dozen large plastic baskets are placed. That is where microbial feed is produced, a type of food fermented from a combination of microorganisms. Mr. Nhi uses agricultural products such as corn, soybeans... fermented with fish protein and herbs fermented with yogurt (homemade). "This food helps balance the microflora in the chicken's intestines, increases resistance and nutrient absorption. From there, the chicken meat will be more delicious," said Mr. Nhi.
The chickens are grazed in a large hilly garden, surrounded by native vegetation. During the natural grazing process, the chickens also search for food in the natural environment such as flowers, herbs, grass, insects... Due to the habits of wild chickens, even though we were standing far away, the flock of chickens rushed towards the covered coop. Nearly ten chickens jumped up, circled above our heads, and landed in the nearby bushes.
“When they see movement or strangers, they fly away immediately, making it difficult for you to take pictures. They fly away and return at night,” Nhi shared.

Unlike other farms that raise chickens for sale within 4 months, chickens raised at Nhi Nguyen Company are raised for 7-8 months, but in return, the chickens are of good quality and nutritious. "Here, we do not sell chickens by weight but by individual chickens. Each chicken is priced (plucked, cleaned, vacuum-packed) at 500,000 - 600,000 VND. Much more expensive than traditional chickens," Nhi added.
Not only developing chicken flocks on the farm, Nhi Nguyen Company also expands production links. In addition to the main farm with more than 3,000 chickens, the company also cooperates with 50 households in the area. The company's chicken purchase price for farmers is still maintained at around 500,000 VND/chicken. The company has also signed contracts to purchase products for members by processing and packaging organic hill chicken products for sale to the market.
“Thanks to the application of organic microbial farming processes, the company’s products are always of high quality and are favored by consumers. Currently, our company has cooperated to open restaurants serving chicken dishes and selling cleaned chickens in Dong Hoi and Hanoi. On average, we consume more than 2,000 chickens per month as food for customers,” Mr. Nhi confided.
Mr. Nhi said that the chicken flock brings in a lot of revenue but the profit is not much because of the cost of feed and the long time. "However, this is also a new direction in chicken farming and is suitable for rural areas, helping farmers have more income while creating a source of delicious, clean, healthy food for the community," Mr. Nhi said.
