Basis for making English the second language in schools in Ho Chi Minh City
Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Director of the Department of Education and Training, said that the integrated English program approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee 10 years ago is a breakthrough in improving the English proficiency of students in Ho Chi Minh City. The program not only teaches English as a regular foreign language, but also teaches Math and Science in English according to a high-quality curriculum framework, scientifically integrating the Vietnamese general education program and the British program. This allows students to enjoy the superiority of both education systems. The output of the program is an internationally recognized certificate - Pearson Edexcel.
This affirms the quality of the program and the right direction of the city's education sector in improving English proficiency and subjects taught in English, while encouraging students to take international certification exams and promoting global integration.
Mr. Hieu said that one of the key tasks set out in Conclusion 91 of the Politburo is to gradually make English the second language in schools. The successful implementation of the integrated English program is a strategic vision of Ho Chi Minh City in improving foreign language proficiency. Students' achievements in international certification exams are the basis for continuing to expand the application of the program, realizing the direction of Conclusion 91 to make English the second language in schools.
