Pickled shallots and honey "on the way" to England

The first shipment of Yen Thuy salt and Kim Boi wild honey from Hoa Binh province was exported to the UK market by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hoa Binh province in coordination with RYB Joint Stock Company (Hanoi) on October 12.

To prepare for this export shipment, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hoa Binh province has coordinated with the People's Committees of Yen Thuy and Kim Boi districts to guide and support production facilities to standardize raw material areas and improve processing and packaging techniques to meet market requirements.

Green Life Cooperative (Kim Boi, Hoa Binh) is the honey producer selected to export to the UK this time. To ensure the quality of the shipment to the UK, Green Life Cooperative has developed a specific production orientation since around 2017. Members have started to standardize the care techniques, harvesting techniques and packaging. In the livestock production process, VietGAP standards are applied and processing is according to ISO22000 standards.

According to Green Life Cooperative, to meet export standards to the UK, when harvested honey is brought to the production warehouse, it will be cooled down to about 17% at a temperature below 35 degrees Celsius to ensure the honey has the right density and quality according to the requirements of the UK importer.

The first trial batch of 20 boxes (about 250 jars of whole honey) is not much, but this is a big step forward to help Hoa Binh products have a presence in one of the most demanding markets.

For pickled shallots, at Phu Lai Agricultural Cooperative, Phu Lai Commune (Yen Thuy), the process of producing pickled shallots is carried out in strict compliance with food hygiene and safety requirements, without the use of preservatives. Each onion is carefully selected, pre-processed, cleaned, fermented and packaged before being put on the market. To preserve the onions for a long time, with their characteristic flavor and precious medicinal essences inside, and to retain their crispness when eaten, the Cooperative uses glass jars to preserve the product.

RYB Joint Stock Company is responsible for packing export goods according to export standards and transporting them to import markets. Ms. Nguyen Thanh Huong - Director of the Company said that through exploration, survey and testing, the company highly appreciated the quality of Hoa Binh's products, in which, Kim Boi wild honey will be a highly competitive product in the UK market thanks to its viscosity and special flavor of wild flowers.

Ms. Huong shared that this is a demanding market with strict regulations on plant quarantine, food hygiene and safety management, and traceability. However, if we can seize the opportunity and ensure the supply of quality products that meet the above requirements, the picture of market expansion will be very bright.

Hoa Binh agricultural products still have great export potential.

Sharing about the province's agricultural export potential, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hoa Binh said that in the past 3 years, Hoa Binh has paid great attention to agricultural export activities, especially key products, thereby promoting agricultural products and boosting domestic consumption of agricultural products.

To promote local advantages and diversify export products, Hoa Binh province persists in the goal of popularizing international standards and techniques, including proposing solutions such as synchronous application of production technical standards, standardization of planting and farming areas, supporting enterprises and cooperatives with potential and strengths in agricultural production, etc.

By the first 9 months of the year, according to statistics, the whole province had 17 establishments exporting agricultural and forestry products. The total export output was 891,679 tons, reaching a value of over 228.34 billion VND.

Hoa Binh is the citrus production granary of the North. Due to the favorable natural conditions, citrus products grown in districts such as Cao Phong, Lac Son, Tan Lac, Yen Thuy all have a very delicious flavor. Agricultural products produced in Hoa Binh are also welcomed by consumers. In recent years, many Hoa Binh agricultural products such as Son Thuy longan (Kim Boi), Tan Lac red grapefruit, Dien grapefruit (Yen Thuy), purple sugarcane... have met the standards and been exported to many markets. These are the first steps to open the door for many other agricultural products of Muong land such as oranges, grapefruits... to go abroad.

Specifically, in 2022, Dai Dong Cooperative, Ngoc Luong Commune, Yen Thuy District People's Committee (Hoa Binh) coordinated with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hoa Binh, RYB Agricultural Joint Stock Company to organize the ceremony to export the first shipment of Dien grapefruit to the UK market. The amount of grapefruit exported reached nearly 11 tons. At the same time, Tan Lac red grapefruit products were also exported to the UK in 2022.

Sharing with reporters of Cong Thuong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thuy - Vice Chairman of Ngoc Luong Commune People's Committee said that after the shipment was successfully exported to the UK market, the locality received feedback from the purchasing unit that Dien grapefruit products of Hoa Binh are completely capable of competing with products of other countries, and the quality is highly appreciated.

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hoa Binh province informed that promoting the development of many types of high-quality agricultural products of the province not only contributes to solving the problem of effective agricultural product consumption but also creates diversity in the list of typical products of the province. From there, it helps products improve their competitiveness in the domestic market, gradually find export markets and increase economic income for people.

In the coming time, Hoa Binh province will continue to implement investment promotion programs, calling for businesses to invest in agriculture, farmers, and rural areas, focusing on investing in infrastructure, preliminary processing, packaging, and preservation of agricultural products; strengthen the organization of research, forecasting of foreign markets, and timely information to producers and traders; support and organize for businesses and cooperatives to participate in domestic and foreign promotion programs. At the same time, efforts will be made to implement solutions so that the province's agricultural products continue to "take off" more to the world market.
