With the hope of a bountiful harvest, in the first days of the new year, orange growers at Tra Son Cooperative - Anh Hung village, Thuong Loc commune (Can Loc) are diligently pruning and cultivating their orange gardens.
It is known that in the last orange crop, the cooperative had more than 30 hectares of oranges for harvest, of which 15 hectares were crispy oranges that met OCOP standards. The total harvest yield was nearly 300 tons, bringing in about 20 billion VND in revenue for 12 member families. The oranges had a good harvest and good prices at the end of the season, so people were very excited.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hoa - Director of Tra Son Cooperative, said: "The joy from the success of the previous orange season is the motivation for us to start preparing for the next orange crop. From experience and reality, it is shown that proper care will help the tree achieve high productivity, so during the orange flowering period, we are focusing on weeding, hoeing the soil, and pruning diseased branches to create favorable conditions for the tree to branch out."

After Tet, when oranges and grapefruits enter the flowering period, the trees need to be fully nourished. Therefore, these days, members of the Thuong Nga Fruit Tree Cooperative (Thuong Nga Commune, Can Loc District) have mobilized more manpower, busy with pruning, fertilizing, and weeding around the base to limit harmful pests.
Mr. Tran Xuan Loc in Dat Do village, Thuong Nga commune - a member of Thuong Nga Fruit Tree Growing Cooperative shared: “This year, oranges and grapefruits have bloomed quite a lot and on time, so we are very happy. During this time, we focus on pruning branches and cleaning grass around the base to limit water and nutrient loss. In addition, we also regularly monitor the weather, observe the daily growth and development of the trees to promptly detect and prevent pests and diseases.”
Mr. Bui Van Quan - a member of Dong Loc Fruit Tree Cooperative reconnected the irrigation system to provide water to the trees in time.
Like many orange growers in the Can Loc tea plantation area, Mr. Bui Van Quan - a member of Dong Loc Fruit Cooperative is urgently taking care of his oranges.
Mr. Quan said: “In addition to clearing, cutting grass, mounding and pruning branches, we also check and operate the irrigation system to be ready to provide water for the trees. Because in reality, orange trees like moisture and are not drought-tolerant, so during the flowering period, we must pay attention to providing adequate water.”

According to experts, this year the weather will be quite unfavorable for orange and grapefruit trees. That is, drought, little rainfall, low humidity and frost will greatly affect the flowering and fruiting process of the trees.
“In that situation, recently, the staff of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Center for Application of Science and Technology and Protection of Plants and Livestock of Can Loc district have transferred science and technology, promptly advised and directed people to take care of oranges and grapefruits according to the instructions of the professional sector to prevent and limit pests and diseases, helping the trees grow healthily and have a high fruit set rate,” said Mr. Nguyen Xuan Tuan - Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Can Loc district.
