1. Pham Cao Nguyen and Pham Cong Minh

Recently, at the 2024 International Olympiad in Informatics in Egypt, Pham Cong Minh (12th grade student of the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences, University of Natural Sciences - Vietnam National University, Hanoi) was one of two contestants of the Vietnamese team to win the Gold Medal.

Interestingly, before that, Minh's brother Pham Cao Nguyen (former student of the High School for Gifted Students of Natural Sciences, University of Natural Sciences - Vietnam National University, Hanoi) also won medals at the International Olympiad in Informatics for two consecutive years (2016 and 2017).

Specifically, in the 2016 International Olympiad in Informatics in Russia, Pham Cao Nguyen (then in grade 11) was one of two members of the Vietnamese team that won the Gold Medal.

A year later, at the 2017 International Olympiad in Informatics in Iran, Nguyen continued to win the Bronze Medal. Nguyen is currently a PhD student in Switzerland.

2. Ho Viet Duc and Ho Duc Trung

This year, another pair of brothers did the same. Ho Duc Trung (12th grade student at Quoc Hoc High School for the Gifted, Thua Thien - Hue province) brought home a Silver Medal at the 2024 International Biology Olympiad held in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Four years ago, Trung's older brother, Ho Viet Duc (a former student of Quoc Hoc High School for the Gifted, Thua Thien - Hue province) also won a Gold Medal at the 2020 International Biology Olympiad.

Previously, both Duc and Trung were valedictorians of the Biology major at Quoc Hoc High School. Currently, Ho Viet Duc is studying at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

3. Nguyen Thuan Hung and Nguyen An Thinh

Nguyen Thuan Hung and Nguyen An Thinh (both former students of Tran Phu High School for the Gifted, Hai Phong) are the first pair of siblings in Vietnam to win a Gold Medal in the 50-year history of Vietnam's participation in the IMO, since 1974.

At the 2023 International Mathematics Competition in Japan, Nguyen An Thinh (grade 12 IT major at Tran Phu High School for the Gifted, Hai Phong) was one of two contestants on the Vietnamese team to win the Gold Medal.

Previously, Nguyen An Thinh's older brother, Nguyen Thuan Hung, also won a Gold Medal at the 2019 International Mathematical Olympiad in the UK. Despite their different personalities, the two brothers' mathematical abilities are quite similar, especially outstanding in the areas of combinatorics and geometry.

4. Vu Ngoc Minh and Vu Hong Anh

Vu Ngoc Minh (former student of Hanoi National University of Education High School for the Gifted) won Gold Medals at the International Mathematical Olympiads for two consecutive years. In the 2001 International Mathematical Olympiad in the US, Minh (then in 11th grade) was the only member of the Vietnamese team to win a Gold Medal.

A year later, at the 2002 International Mathematical Olympiad in England, Vu Ngoc Minh was also one of three Vietnamese contestants to win a Gold Medal and became one of the few Vietnamese students to have two Gold Medals at the International Mathematical Olympiad.

Ngoc Minh's younger brother, Vu Hong Anh (former student of Tran Phu High School for the Gifted - Hai Phong) also won a Silver Medal at the 2009 International Physics Olympiad in Mexico.

5. Pham Anh Tuan and Pham Duc Anh

Another pair of brothers in Hanoi who also won medals at the international Olympic competition are Pham Anh Tuan and Pham Duc Anh.

Pham Duc Anh (former student of the High School for Gifted Students of Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Hanoi) is one of three Vietnamese students who won a Gold Medal at the 2017 International Chemistry Olympiad in Thailand and ranked 21st out of 279 contestants from 76 countries and territories participating. Pham Duc Anh recently graduated as a doctor from Hanoi Medical University.

Pham Duc Anh's brother, Pham Anh Tuan, was also a member of the Vietnamese team that participated in the 2008 International Chemistry Olympiad in Hungary. That year, Pham Anh Tuan won a Bronze Medal.

This is also the first family in Vietnam where both brothers won medals at the International Chemistry Olympiad.

6. Nguyen The Trung and Nguyen Trung Tu

The third pair of brothers, also from Hai Phong, are Nguyen The Trung and Nguyen Trung Tu. Both brothers are former students of the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences, Hanoi National University, and both won Silver Medals at the International Mathematical Olympiad.

Nguyen The Trung won a Silver Medal in the 1995 International Mathematical Olympiad in Canada.

Four years later, Nguyen The Trung's younger brother, Nguyen Trung Tu, also won a Silver Medal at the 1999 International Mathematical Olympiad in Romania.

In addition, if counting in the family, the uncle (mother's younger brother) of this pair of brothers, Le Nhu Duong, was also a member of the 1978 International Mathematics Olympiad team in Romania and won the Bronze Medal.

7. Cao Vu Dan and Cao Vu Nhan

The two brothers are from Hai Phong and are both former students of the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. They are Cao Vu Dan and Cao Vu Nhan.

Cao Vu Dan participated in the 2000 International Mathematics Olympiad in Korea and won a Silver Medal. Three years later, Dan's younger brother Cao Vu Nhan won a Gold Medal at the 2003 Asian Physics Olympiad in Thailand.

8. Pham Tran Quan and Pham Tran Duc

Another pair of brothers are Pham Tran Quan (born in 1981) and Pham Tran Duc (born in 1985), from Hanoi and both are former students of the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

At the 1999 International Mathematics Olympiad in Romania, Pham Tran Quan won a Silver Medal. Four years later, Quan's younger brother Pham Tran Duc won a Bronze Medal at the 2003 International Informatics Olympiad in the United States.

9. Ha Huy Minh and Ha Huy Tai

If we consider cousins, Ha Huy Minh and Ha Huy Tai both won medals at the International Math Olympiad.

At the 1989 exam in Germany, Ha Huy Minh (then a student at the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences, Hanoi National University) won the Bronze Medal.

Two years later, Ha Huy Tai (also a former student of the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences, Hanoi National University) also won a Silver Medal at the 1991 International Mathematical Olympiad in Sweden.
