Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and his wife hosted the welcoming ceremony. This is Japan's highest level of reception for foreign delegations in 2023 and in the context that Japan is still continuing measures to prevent the COVID-19 epidemic.
Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio and his wife welcomed and shook hands with the two distinguished guests at the main entrance of the Prime Minister's Office and respectfully invited President Vo Van Thuong and his wife to enter the position of honor.
The military band played the national anthems of Vietnam and Japan. President Vo Van Thuong and Prime Minister Kishida Fumio then inspected the honor guard and greeted the officials of the two countries present at the welcoming ceremony.
Immediately after the welcoming ceremony, the two leaders led high-ranking delegations from the two countries into talks.
This is the first official visit to Japan by President Vo Van Thuong in his new position, and the fourth visit by a Vietnamese President since the two countries established relations in 1973.
The President's visit also took place on the occasion of the two countries celebrating the 50th anniversary of establishing relations and achieving strong development in all fields.
Exchange activities, including high-level and all-level delegation exchanges, have been promoted. Japan continues to be Vietnam's leading economic partner .
Cooperation between localities of the two countries has been continuously promoted. Up to now, there are about 100 pairs of relations between localities of Vietnam and Japan.
According to Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Pham Quang Hieu, in 2023, the two countries will organize nearly 500 activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations.
It can be said that never before has the strengthening of bilateral cooperation received such broad consensus from the states, governments and people of the two countries.
According to Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Yamada Takio, Japan considers Vietnam an important partner in realizing the goal of a "free and open Indo-Pacific".
In addition to reviewing the progress in Japan-Vietnam relations so far, this visit also reaffirms and conveys the message that cooperation between Japan and Vietnam is not only a bilateral relationship but is also becoming "a relationship that can jointly contribute to peace and prosperity in the region and the world," Mr. Yamada told Tuoi Tre Online.
According to Ambassador Yamada Takio, Japan and Vietnam will continue to develop the Extensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia that the two countries affirmed in 2014 in a more substantial and effective manner in all areas and cooperate closely to elevate the relationship to a new height.
