Binh Duong More than a dozen households in Phu Cuong ward live in fear because their walls are cracked and tilted, and could collapse at any time due to the impact of drainage construction.
The project to renovate Thay Nang canal, from the intersection of Cong street Thich Quang Duc to Ba Hen bridge (Cach Mang Thang Tam street) and the stone canal built along Thich Quang Duc street, has a total investment of more than 172 billion VND. The project will drain water for a basin of about 435 hectares; create landscape and urban embellishment in Thu Dau Mot city.
In recent days, the construction unit has mobilized many machines to drive piles, build embankments, and build drainage systems. However, the process of digging foundations has caused more than 10 houses of households along the stone canal to have cracked walls and subsidence.

Pointing to her torn-apart house, Ms. Vo Thi Dao, 59 years old, said that since the sewer was built, the house below started showing signs of cracks, then the walls were torn apart so she didn't dare go in or out. "I'm very scared because the house could collapse at any time. I request the government to work with the investor to compensate the people," Ms. Dao said.
Next to Ms. Dao’s house, more than 10 other households also experienced similar problems. In one case, the crack tore the wall of two adjacent houses in half. In addition, the fence and house doors could not be closed tightly because the walls were tilted.
Mr. Tran Tan Phi Hung, Head of Ward 2, said that the project investor came down to inspect and asked households with cracked walls to take pictures, but so far there has been no response. "Most of the affected cases are in difficult circumstances, most of them work as workers while Tet is near so they don't know what to do," Mr. Hung said.

Mr. Vu Tien Son, Director of the Project Management Board of Agriculture and Rural Development of Binh Duong Province, said that some houses were cracked due to the process of removing the iron stakes, causing the ground to shake and crack. According to records, 14 households were affected, many of which were built many years ago and were severely damaged. "We are coordinating with the construction insurance to support compensation for the people," he said.
Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thu Dau Mot City, Tran Si Nam, said that the city has sent officials to make a record of the incident. The government will work with the investor to agree on a solution. "The construction project is quite complicated, so during the implementation process, the city will supervise to ensure that it does not affect the daily life of the people," said Mr. Nam.
