In the past, classical music in Vietnam was still considered a genre that was selective of its listeners, reserved for a small group of people who were truly knowledgeable and passionate. Young people had little opportunity to access piano and other academic music genres, making this genre seem to exist only in closed art spaces.
However, in recent years, with the systematic and visionary investment of the State, Vietnamese classical music has made significant progress. A series of domestic piano competitions of all sizes are held regularly, creating a playground and motivation for the young generation to pursue this subject.
According to statistics, currently in Vietnam, there are more than 100,000 children who have access to the piano from a young age, and this number is still increasing. Changes in parents' awareness along with policies promoting arts education have helped the piano and classical music no longer be the privilege of a small group, but gradually become a part of cultural life.
In that context, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Huy Phuong is one of the persistent and steadfast people who contributed to laying the foundation for the development of piano in Vietnam. Not only inspiring, he also directly trained generations of excellent young artists, bringing Vietnamese talent to the world.
Recently, at the Fujairah International Piano Competition held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), overcoming two intense rounds and 24 contestants from world music powers such as Russia, France, Italy, the US, China, Japan..., young talent Nguyen Duc Kien has excellently won the prestigious Champion title of Group C, contributing to bringing Vietnamese music to the international map. Nguyen Duc Kien is also studying the Intermediate Talent Training Program 8/9 at the Piano Department of the Vietnam National Academy of Music and is directly instructed by Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Huy Phuong.

In the future, with the support of teachers like Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Huy Phuong, Vietnam will certainly produce many more talented pianists who will continue to shine on international stages. And on that journey, the image of a dedicated teacher who ignites musical dreams will forever be an indelible mark.
