Ms. Tran Thi Nhu Nguyet shared that books play a very important role in life because they are the quintessence of human knowledge. Reading books helps accumulate knowledge for learning, research and enriching spiritual life.
However, in reality, young people seem to be less and less interested in books and newspapers. When listening and viewing culture overwhelms reading culture, it is necessary to connect to bring books to the community in general and young people in particular.
Over the years, Ms. Nguyet has advised the agency, developed plans to coordinate with the People's Committees of communes in the area to develop community reading rooms; successfully organized the launching ceremonies of community reading rooms at the cultural houses of villages in the communes.
In each community reading room, there are more than 600 books and more than 200 newspapers and magazines from the district library in circulation. Every year, Nui Thanh District Library adds new books and newspapers of all genres to the community reading rooms at the grassroots level.
To develop a reading culture among the young generation, Ms. Nguyet advised the District Library to successfully organize a Book Festival with many attractive and meaningful activities such as organizing a book appreciation contest with the theme "My favorite book", a "Artistic book stacking" contest, and a "Green strokes 2023" painting contest.
At the same time, coordinate with the Provincial Library to bring mobile cars to serve books at almost all primary and secondary schools in the communes, especially remote areas such as Tam Tra, Tam Thanh, Tam Son.
Along with that, she has donated and received more than 1,000 good and valuable books from writers and journalists, then promoted, introduced, and stimulated reading culture among students.
For her professional duties, she regularly processes, catalogs, and pastes barcodes of books into library management software and guides readers to easily look up books on the OpenBiblio source code software.
She spends a lot of time compiling specialized directories; organizing book exhibitions with topics about Uncle Ho, the land and people of Quang Nam - Nui Thanh, folk festivals, etc.
“I regularly introduce the column “New books every week” on the district radio station so that reading culture can develop and spread in the community and among young people,” said Ms. Nguyet.
According to Ms. Nguyet, books have affirmed their position, role and importance in improving knowledge, developing thinking skills and training human personality. Therefore, we will continue to encourage and develop the culture of reading in the community; contributing to spreading the habit of reading in families, schools, agencies and organizations, towards building a learning society in Nui Thanh.
