Hanoians are busy shopping for offerings on the full moon day of the twelfth lunar month of the year of the Cat.
The full moon of December is the last full moon day of the year. According to folk beliefs, before welcoming the new year, there will be 3 ceremonies to see off the old year, including the full moon of December, the worship of Ong Cong, Ong Tao and the year-end ceremony. Of these, the full moon of December is the earliest ceremony, also a sign that a busy Lunar New Year season has officially begun.
This is the time when almost every family takes the trouble to prepare offerings to their ancestors, to prepare to welcome good things in the coming new year.
According to VTC News reporters, from early morning on January 25, many traditional markets in Hanoi such as Thanh Ha, Yen Phu, Hang Be... were bustling, with many people shopping for offerings. The full moon worship ceremony in December is not much different from other full moon days of the year, however, this is the last full moon day of the year, so many families have a mentality of preparing more elaborately and neatly.
In particular, items that only appear during the Lunar New Year such as peach blossoms are very popular. Therefore, on the 15th day of the 12th lunar month, small peach branches suitable for placing on the altar are bought a lot. The price of each branch ranges from 100,000 to 150,000 VND, larger branches cost from 200,000 VND or more.
Taking advantage of the full moon offering, people often choose many votive offerings to display on the altar at the end of the old year and the beginning of the new year. Therefore, from now on, many stores have started selling Ong Cong and Ong Tao items.
Street vendors are also popular.
Although there are many types of Tet flowers, traditional roses and chrysanthemums are still bought by many people, and flower prices these days increase by 20-30% compared to normal days.
Flower stalls are also crowded with customers, sellers are constantly working.
The fruit stalls were equally busy.
On her way home after buying enough offerings for the full moon day of the twelfth lunar month, Ms. Lan (Hoan Kiem district) said: " It has become an indispensable tradition. Every full moon day of the twelfth lunar month, I wake up early to go to the market, prepare everything for the offering tray to my ancestors, to send off the old things and welcome good luck for the new year ."
All kinds of fruits are on sale, serving people's shopping needs on this occasion.
Chickens with roses in their mouths at Hang Be market have never been "hot" during the holidays. Each chicken weighs 1.5 - 1.7 kg and is sold for 500,000 - 700,000 VND/chicken. Sticky rice with gac fruit and five-color sticky rice cost 50,000 - 100,000 VND/plate.
