The Exemplary Veteran of Khe Sanh

For many years, veteran Ho Van Xang (CCB), residing in Hamlet 6, Khe Sanh Town, Huong Hoa District (Quang Tri) has been a shining example. His efforts not only help improve his family's life but also spread the spirit of striving and solidarity in the community, contributing to promoting the socio-economic development of the locality.

Mr. Xang was born in 1945. According to him, when he turned 18, he enthusiastically joined the army and was assigned to unit C1, the local army. His unit was tasked with coordinating with regular troops, participating in battles to destroy outposts and posts to clear the way to attack major strongholds such as Lang Vay and Ta Con airport. With his bravery and indomitable fighting spirit, he was assigned to the position of Company Commander, directly commanding 140 troops participating in the Road 9 - Khe Sanh campaign in 1968. After 170 days and nights of arduous fighting, on July 15, 1968, the Road 9 - Khe Sanh campaign ended in victory, liberating Huong Hoa district.

After the Khe Sanh victory, he continued to fight in many battlefields until the day the country was completely liberated. In 1985, he retired with the rank of captain and assumed the position of Vice President of the Veterans Association of Huong Hoa district. With his contributions, he was honored to be awarded the title of American-killing Brave Soldier, the Third-class Military Exploit Medal, the First-class Anti-American Resistance Medal and was awarded 8 golden words by the Vietnam Veterans Association: "Trẫn nghĩa nước sơn - Tham tình cam đồng lý".

Returning to normal life with many physical injuries, the qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers still shine in him. He is always enthusiastic about economic development with the desire to contribute to building the village and his hometown of Huong Hoa to be more and more innovative. To do that well, he has actively studied effective models in many places and actively participated in training courses on farming and livestock raising techniques organized by the locality. In addition to growing 5 hectares of coffee, his family also developed a model of raising cows, goats, chickens and fish, contributing to improving the economic life of the family and motivating people in the village to follow suit.

Mr. and Mrs. Ho Van Hot - Ho Thi Hien (residing in Hamlet 6, Khe Sanh) shared: “Old Xang has a good heart, he often helps people, especially when they are sick, have financial difficulties and children with disabilities due to Agent Orange. And when the new crop comes, he always guides and shares business experiences with people; supports plants and seedlings for poor and near-poor households”.

Mr. Nguyen Tang, Secretary of Huong Hoa District Party Committee, said that veteran Ho Van Xang is a veteran party member. After retirement, he held the important position of Party cell secretary of block 6, Khe Sanh town for many years. He has always been loved and respected by local people. Despite his old age, he still regularly stays close to the area, propagating to people to comply with the Party's policies and the State's laws; actively participates in coordinating with local Party committees and authorities in mobilizing households to donate land and contribute to building rural roads, intra-field roads, consolidating canals, as well as encouraging people to change their thinking and ways of doing things to transform the crop and livestock structure to bring about high economic efficiency.

“With his contributions in both wartime and peacetime, veteran Ho Van Xang deserves to be a shining example for generations to follow, contributing to building an increasingly prosperous homeland,” Mr. Tang emphasized.

Appreciating the contributions of veteran Ho Van Xang in ensuring local security and order, Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Minh Toi, Head of Khe Sanh Town Police, said that with a high sense of responsibility, Mr. Xang has always been exemplary in movements, especially in maintaining local security and order. “He has always actively participated in propagating and mobilizing people to comply with the law, contributing to building a safe and healthy living environment. His dedication and prestige have contributed to creating trust and solidarity in the community, supporting the police force in preventing and fighting all kinds of crimes,” Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Minh Toi shared and affirmed that veterans like Mr. Xang are a solid “shield” from the grassroots, making an important contribution to maintaining security and order and developing the local economy and society.
