(Fatherland) - On February 18, the People's Committee of Le Thuy district (Quang Binh) coordinated with the Board of Directors of Hoang Phuc Pagoda to organize the 7th National Historical Relic Festival of Hoang Phuc Pagoda in 2025, a pagoda with a history of more than 700 years and is one of the oldest pagodas in Central Vietnam.
According to historical records, in 1301, Emperor Tran Nhan Tong visited and prayed for the people, at that time, Hoang Phuc Pagoda was Tri Kien hermitage. In 1716, Lord Nguyen Phuc Chu named the pagoda Kinh Thien Tu. In 1821, King Minh Mang, during his trip to the North, visited the pagoda and changed its name to Hoang Phuc Tu, commonly known as Tram Pagoda or Quan Pagoda.
Over time, the pagoda was damaged. In 2014, Hoang Phuc Pagoda was restored and renovated. The project was completed and inaugurated in 2016. On this occasion, Hoang Phuc Pagoda was recognized as a National Historical Relic, becoming a place for spiritual and cultural activities, connecting the community and uniting the nation.
Hoang Phuc Pagoda today is the place chosen to organize many cultural and spiritual activities according to Buddhist rituals such as: Praying for favorable weather at Trooc Vuc Temple; releasing fish in early spring; opening the seal ceremony; praying for national peace and prosperity; preaching, taking refuge in the Three Jewels; giving fortune and releasing lanterns to pray along with many rich and attractive cultural and sports activities...
Hoang Phuc Pagoda is a heritage of a Buddhist spiritual cultural center of Dai Viet brought by the community during the Southward expansion during the Ly-Tran period, contributing to preserving Dai Viet identity when coming to the new land to settle down and make a living.
The pagoda is one of the oldest relics containing many messages about the history of Dai Viet Buddhism penetrating into Dang Trong region through the community, monks, and the footsteps of kings and mandarins who admired Buddhism on their journeys.
Over the past 700 years, Hoang Phuc Pagoda has been associated with many ups and downs throughout the history of the nation, through 6 feudal dynasties, including Tran Dynasty, Ho Dynasty, Later Le Dynasty, Mac Dynasty, Tay Son Dynasty and Nguyen Dynasty as well as two resistance wars against French colonialism and American imperialism. Therefore, this pagoda has the presence of Buddhist statues and dharma instruments of many origins, styles and materials.
Hoang Phuc Pagoda has been closely associated with the spiritual life of the people of Le Thuy district in particular and the people of Quang Binh in general. Many people throughout Quang Binh province regularly visit Hoang Phuc Pagoda not only because of the beautiful scenery and the tranquility of the space here but also to help themselves feel more peaceful when praying for a peaceful country and a warm and happy family.
