Directing the revocation of beauty queen titles and cancellation of exam results if violating the law

Many large and small beauty contests are continuously held in Vietnam.

A representative of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City said that as of February 2025, the Department has approved two beauty contests in 2025. The rounds of these two contests will take place from October to December 2025. The appraisal and issuance of approval documents for beauty pageants and model contests are based on Decree No. 144/2020/ND-CP.

Pursuant to Official Dispatch No. 2019/BVHTTDL-NTBD on rectifying the enforcement of laws on cultural and artistic activities and Directive No. 274/CT-BVHTTDL of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on strengthening state management of a number of cultural and artistic activities, festivals, protecting and promoting the value of cultural heritage, restoring and developing tourism, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ho Chi Minh City coordinates with departments, branches and localities to strengthen inspection and monitoring of the organization of beauty contests; provide professional guidance in the process of performing state management tasks in this field; establish a database to serve the management of performing arts activities. At the same time, in order to be proactive and respond to the practical situation in managing cultural and artistic activities in the city, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ho Chi Minh City has issued Plan No. 4753/KH-SVHTT on coordinating with departments, branches, districts, and Thu Duc City to carry out state management and implement measures to prevent, inspect, and handle violations in the fields of performing arts, beauty contests, and modeling.

In addition to the beauty contest, the organizers also let the contestants focus on social activities and community engagement.

"In recent times, based on state management of performing arts activities, beauty contests, and modeling, it has been shown that most contests taking place in Ho Chi Minh City have ensured compliance with relevant legal regulations," said the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Currently, the organizers of many beauty contests have created content for contestants to participate in propaganda activities on environmental protection, promote the city's landscapes and people to other localities and connect with the world, organize for contestants or encourage contestants to carry out volunteer activities, care for the disadvantaged in society. Among them, some contestants who have won the title are exemplary young people in their efforts to rise up and have had exciting activities during their term, actively participating in social activities, creating positive energy for young people such as Miss Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien. Recently, Miss Nguyen Thi Ngoc Chau was honored as a typical young citizen of Ho Chi Minh City in 2024.

Regarding the organization of beauty and model contests, the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City strictly manages the quantity and quality of beauty and model contests in the area; strengthens coordination in the management of large-scale beauty and model contests, with foreign elements, related to ethnic affairs, gender equality, children, organized in many rounds in many localities. In addition, the authorities also strictly appraise the dossiers (including carefully reviewing the project to ensure consistency, conformity with national customs and traditions, traditional culture, suitability for age, gender and practical conditions of the locality) before advising on approval or disapproval of the organization of beauty and model contests.

"After issuing the approval document, we will strengthen inspection and monitoring, resolutely stop beauty and model contests, direct the revocation of titles and awards, and cancel contest results in case of violations of the law," emphasized a representative of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
