In a phone call with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian emphasized: “As long as the US supports the Jewish regime (Israel) and continues the war… there is a high possibility that the regional situation will explode out of control.”
According to the Iranian diplomat, US support for Israel “has made it difficult to achieve a lasting ceasefire.” Foreign Minister Abdollahian also called for the immediate opening of the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt to allow humanitarian aid into the blockaded territory.
“The Israeli government’s claim that Hamas has violated the ceasefire is completely false,” Mr. Abdollahian told Mr. Guterres. However, he praised Secretary-General Guterres’ decision to invoke Article 99 of the UN Charter as “a courageous act to maintain international peace and security.”
