These results underscore the urgency of raising public awareness of cancer risk factors and effective prevention measures.

The People's Daily reported that the study, conducted by the National Cancer Research Center of China, identified smoking as the leading cause of lung cancer. Notably, the risk of developing the disease in smokers is 2.5 to 2.7 times higher than that of non-smokers.

The study also noted that 16% of lung cancer cases in non-smokers were linked to “secondhand smoke,” with slightly higher rates in women due to exposure to smoke in the household environment.

Liver cancer is also a concern. Research warns of the dangers of aflatoxin, a group 1 carcinogen commonly found in moldy, improperly stored nuts, corn and peanuts. Even minimal exposure to these toxins can cause irreversible damage to liver cells, increasing the risk of liver cancer.

For stomach cancer, research shows that a high intake of salty foods, pickles, fried foods and alcohol are major risk factors, along with infection with Helicobacter pylori - a bacteria transmitted through contaminated food and water.

According to scientists, a diet rich in green vegetables can help reduce the risk of colorectal cancer by up to 55%, while regular physical activity reduces the risk by up to 67%. In contrast, consuming red meat increases the risk of the disease by up to 60%, while a diet rich in grilled, fried foods and animal fats increases the likelihood of developing the disease.

The study also warned that foods and drinks with temperatures exceeding 65 degrees Celsius should be avoided to prevent esophageal cancer, as they cause frequent damage to the esophageal mucosa.

In general, scientists recommend adopting a balanced diet, focusing on fruits, vegetables and whole grains, while avoiding smoking, excessive alcohol consumption and late night habits.

The study also highlights the importance of maintaining a healthy weight through regular exercise, minimizing exposure to environmental pollutants and indoor air pollution, especially from cooking smoke.
