Folk art of Bai Choi becomes a "specialty" of Quang Ngai tourism

(PLVN) - Many localities in Quang Ngai have focused on effectively exploiting the folk art of Bai Choi in tourism, turning this type of art into a "specialty" attracting both domestic and foreign tourists.

Recently, Quang Ngai tourism is not only mentioned with famous places: Ly Son island, My Khue beach, Tu Nghia coconut beach... but also Go Co (Pho Thanh ward, Duc Pho town) - a tourist destination that attracts many domestic and foreign tourists.

Not only attracting tourists by the intact cultural heritage of a village with hundreds of years of history, Go Co Village also attracts tourists by an extremely attractive "specialty": Bai Choi folk song.

Go Co Bai Choi - Hat Ho Club serves tourists.

Ms. Huynh Thi Thuong, a Bai Choi artist in Go Co village, said that the Bai Choi - Hat Ho Go Co club was established in 2020 with 21 members. This common house connects members, inspires and preserves the cultural beauty of the locality. To better serve tourists, members compose songs with newer content, with practical meaning in current life from production, tourism to folk tales.

“I know all the songs and lyrics of Bài Chòi left by my ancestors by heart. However, to combine this art with tourism, we have to change our thinking, compose new songs in a modern, familiar style so that everyone can easily understand and fit modern life,” Ms. Thuong shared.

Despite the ups and downs of life, the love for Bài Chòi still burns in the hearts of the people of Gò Cỏ. Together, they build an art movement, perform and compose Bài Chòi... to serve the villagers and tourists.

Coming to Go Co village for the first time, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy, a tourist from Hanoi, was very impressed with the space and landscape of the village. In particular, she was very impressed with the Bai Choi performance, where the artists sang and chanted, creating a joyful atmosphere but also imbued with cultural and artistic values.

“I will definitely have the chance to return to Go Co village to play Bai Choi again,” Ms. Thuy said.

Not only in Go Co village, but also in Bau Ca Cai eco-tourism area (Binh Thuan commune, Binh Son district), Bai Choi teams regularly perform for tourists, including many foreign visitors. This type of folk art and typical folk games enriches the tourism products in Bau Ca Cai.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan, a tourist from Da Nang, shared: “The space here is so beautiful, wild and peaceful. The most interesting thing is sitting on a small boat, drifting along the charming river and listening to the artists singing Bai Choi”.

Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Ngai, said that the locality is implementing the Project to Preserve and Promote the Art of Bài Chòi. Thereby, focusing on developing teams, groups and clubs singing Bài Chòi in localities, linking this art form with tourism activities. Bringing Bài Chòi into service for tourists is necessary, in order to diversify tourism products, contributing to improving the local socio-economic situation.

At the same time, a pilot restoration of a Bai Choi folk game site in Quang Ngai City will be carried out.

In addition, continue to maintain the established Bài Chòi centers, 100% of districts, towns, and cities in the delta and islands establish Bài Chòi clubs at the district level... Orientation to 2030, replicate the model of organizing Bài Chòi art performances to serve people and tourists at tourist destinations in the delta and islands, restore Bài Chòi folk game spots in districts, towns, and cities. At the same time, strive to have 50% of communes, wards, and towns in the delta and islands establish Bài Chòi clubs at the commune level.
