Exit G of the Sangjing Road subway station in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province (China) has become a hot topic on Weibo, after netizens said it looked like a coffin.
According to Sina (China), the discussion topic quickly entered the hot search list on social network Weibo.
Responding to the wave of criticism, on April 17, a representative of the Hangzhou Metro Group explained: "Exit G of the Sangjing Road station is a particularly symbolic structure, with the original design intention of integrating technological and modern elements."
Opened on September 22, 2022, this is the most uniquely shaped entrance in the Hangzhou Metro system. Located in Yuhang Central Park, this entrance is shaped like a "horse saddle" with a blue-domed glass roof.
The representative added that the design idea was inspired by space and science fiction elements, especially the image of a "wormhole".
The project is designed in accordance with the future planning orientation of the luxury office building cluster around the station area, using glass walls as a foundation to blend with the overall surrounding architecture.
When asked whether the design of the project would be adjusted after receiving feedback from the public, a representative of the metro corporation said that the entire design and construction process of the entrance had been professionally evaluated. However, the unit also affirmed that it would seriously consider opinions and consider appropriate adjustments based on reality.
