This year, with the theme "Education with love - love repels violence", the campaign targets parents, caregivers, teachers, and stakeholders to eliminate physical and mental punishment of children; create a safe and positive environment for children to express their opinions and solve problems related to children, especially promoting non-violent educational methods in the process of raising children.
The program was attended by 100 families with more than 300 participants including parents, children, teachers, volunteers and press agencies.
The "Spreading Love" Festival 2023 is organized with the goal of creating a space for parents and children to practice and spread more values of positive, non-violent educational methods towards ending all forms of physical and mental punishment in the journey of raising children. The festival has the participation of representatives of the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union, representatives of the Ho Chi Minh City Young Pioneers Council, MSD Institute for Sustainable Development Management and Save the Children International in Vietnam (Save the Children) and 100 families with more than 300 participants including parents, children, teachers, volunteers and press agencies.
Opening the festival, Ms. Trinh Thi Hien Tran - Deputy Secretary of the City Youth Union, President of the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union Council, emphasized: "The highlight of today's festival is that children and their families will experience fun and exciting activities, thereby strengthening the bond of love between family members. Children will learn about Children's Rights and write messages of love, join hands, and spread educational values with love. The City Youth Union hopes to bring children and their families moments of joy and happiness, and the festival is an opportunity for parents and children to understand each other and bond more."
Children participate in the program.
Sharing the goals and messages of the Spreading Love campaign, Ms. Tran Van Anh - Deputy Director of the Institute for Sustainable Development Management (MSD) said: "In an effort to promote the implementation of children's rights, especially activities to prevent forms of punishment, violence, and discrimination against children, MSD Institute launched the Spreading Love campaign to increase the participation and commitment of stakeholders to join hands to create a positive, healthy environment for the best interests of children."
In the past, many adults still had the view and practiced disciplinary measures through beatings, whips and violent language because they thought that this measure would make children afraid and obedient, thereby becoming obedient. But reality has proven the opposite, violence is not synonymous with education, nor does it bring about positive changes in children's behavior, but even leaves physical and psychological damage to children.
Children participate in games at the program.
Ms. Van Anh emphasized, “Each child has only one childhood and they all want and deserve to have a peaceful, happy childhood with beautiful memories - this will be the best luggage for their maturity and comprehensive development. Therefore, instead of scolding and beating, adults need to practice and apply positive educational measures. When there is companionship, understanding and connection, parents and teachers can easily and promptly support children when problems arise without leaving behind any unfortunate consequences.”
The festival has created a playground for children and families to learn about children's rights and eliminate physical and mental punishment for children, especially at home and at school. Some of the fun activities that connect parents and children in the festival include: Visiting the painting exhibition "Spreading love - Love repels violence"; Creative contest for families: making "Spreading love" cards, decorating piggy banks, painting statues; Enjoying special performances; especially when coming to the festival, each family will receive a "Spreading love" gift - which are media publications to spread and convey the value of positive discipline methods.
Thanh Ha, 10 years old, shared: “I feel very happy to participate in the program. I get to play games with my parents because they are usually busy with work and have little time for me. I hope to play with my parents more, hope they will not scold me when I do something wrong but gently guide me, listen to me more to understand me.”
The festival is an opportunity for each family to come together, understand and actively practice positive educational methods, and above all, build a happy home, a place that says no to violence and physical and mental punishment.
