In a statement, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov denied any Russian interference in Georgia's parliamentary elections this weekend.

"We categorically deny these allegations. There was no interference. These allegations are completely baseless," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said when asked about Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili's claims.

“There are attempts to destabilize the situation in the republic,” the Kremlin spokesman added, referring to the Georgian president’s comments. Peskov also accused European Union (EU) countries of trying to interfere in the Georgian vote.

"There were attempts to interfere, but not from Russia," Mr. Peskov stressed.

Earlier, President Zourabichvili, with his pro-EU views, accused Moscow of interfering in the election, saying it was part of a "Russian special operation". The US and EU have also called for a thorough investigation into reports of violations during the vote.

Georgia's Central Election Commission announced on October 27 the results of the general election, held the day before, in which the ruling Georgian Dream party won.

Experts say this election in Georgia is a choice between deepening relations with Russia and the opposition's goal of rapid integration with Europe.
