The story of Ho Viet Duc's efforts to overcome difficulties has become a great source of inspiration for children in remote villages of the Chut people.

Rao Tre village is home to the Chut ethnic community. From the first 18 people discovered living in caves in the 1960s, up to now, thanks to the support of local authorities at all levels, especially the attention and companionship of the Border Guard in the process of integrating people into the community, Rao Tre village has 45 households and 158 people. Previously, when they did not have enough food to eat or enough clothes to wear, the Chut ethnic people did not pay much attention to their children's education. The Border Guard and teachers had to go to each house to persuade the Chut children to go to school.

Ho Viet Duc’s path to school was not as smooth as that of his peers. Duc was the first child in a poor family in Rao Tre village. His father died early and his mother was often sick, but these difficulties did not extinguish the “flame of dreams” in him. Duc always wanted to study to escape poverty and help his family and community.

To enter high school, Duc had to travel a long way to boarding school. Living far from his family and lacking in material things, Duc always tried his best. He studied hard and actively participated in school activities. Teacher Nguyen Manh Hung, Duc's homeroom teacher at Huong Khe Boarding High School for Ethnic Minorities, shared: "Duc is a hard-working and determined student. He always tries to overcome difficulties to achieve good results."

During his high school years, Duc always nurtured the dream of becoming a teacher. He wanted to bring knowledge back to his fellow villagers and help them have a better life. However, after learning more about the law, Duc realized that the legal understanding of the Chut community in Rao Tre village was limited, leading to being taken advantage of and lured into breaking the law by bad people. Therefore, when registering his wishes, Duc decided to change his registration to Law.

Duc shared: “I see the law as very important in life, especially for ethnic minorities. I want to contribute to raising legal awareness among people.”

Duc’s dream came true when he received the admission notice to the Faculty of Law, Ha Tinh University. To help Duc study with peace of mind, the Border Guard of Ha Tinh province decided to support him with 1.5 million VND per month under the program “Helping you go to school”.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Thien, Head of the Rao Tre Village Border Guard Working Group, Ban Giang Border Guard Station (Ha Tinh Border Guard) shared: “We are very happy to see Duc achieve the success he has today. This is a great source of encouragement for other students in the village.”

For Duc, being able to go to university is not only a personal joy but also the pride of the whole village. He promises to try his best to study well so as not to let down his teachers, family and community.

As soon as he entered university, Ho Viet Duc actively participated in many school activities. Duc's goal is to complete his university program and aspires to return home, have a stable job, to be able to take care of his mother, contribute his small part, and contribute to his homeland.
