This is a step in the effort to crack down on illegal immigration by the administration of US President Donald Trump.

"Today, the first flights from the United States to Guantanamo Bay carrying illegal immigrants were made," White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Fox Business .

Guantanamo Bay, controlled by the United States since the early 20th century, is known primarily as a detention center for people accused of terrorism, but has also been used to detain illegal immigrants.

Last week, President Trump ordered the preparation of a “migrant facility” that can house 30,000 people there. According to the US military’s Southern Command, there are about 300 military personnel stationed at Guantanamo to support the detention of illegal aliens.

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth also described Guantanamo as the "perfect place" to detain immigrants as he visited the border area with Mexico - where Washington has increased its military presence in recent weeks.

Thousands of undocumented immigrants, some of them criminals, have been arrested since President Trump took office on January 20. The US leader has vowed to deport millions, including an unknown number who have been repatriated to Colombia, Mexico, Guatemala, Brazil and other countries.

On the same day, February 4, a US military transport plane also brought a group of Indian migrants back to their country. A spokesperson for the US Embassy in India did not provide further details about this flight, but affirmed that Washington is strictly enforcing immigration laws and deporting illegal migrants.
