The cold weather and bustling Christmas atmosphere are also the time when many volunteer teams and groups of young people everywhere bring winter volunteer programs to send warmth to people and children in mountainous and border areas.

Ngoc Thi and a group of young people from Ho Chi Minh City recently visited the children in the highlands at Me Lau A school (Meo Vac district, Ha Giang province). They said they have visited the children in the highlands several times in winter each year and felt that this year's cold is even colder than previous seasons.

"Feeling sorry for the children shivering on their way to school, we brought warm clothes and gifts. Looking at their smiles, my heart feels warmer during these cold winter days," Ngoc Thi shared.

I received a lot from the trip. That is the lovely smiles of the children when holding the gifts in their hands, and the deep feeling of the sacrifice of the teachers when they diligently sow knowledge every day in extremely harsh conditions.

Telling stories of winter volunteering with children in the highlands

Ngoc Thi has just returned from a winter volunteer trip in Ha Giang province with members of Group G9 - for the smiles of children (under the Vietnam Youth Union of Ho Chi Minh City). This is the third time she has participated in this program, and the second time Thi has gone with her mother.

Thi said cold spells with rain make winter in the highlands of Ha Giang even colder. The Me Lau A school where the students went to is located in a particularly difficult area, deep in the village. Although it is only a few kilometers from the main school, it still takes more than an hour to get there under normal conditions, and it is even more difficult on rainy days. "The school is small and simple, lacking everything, but 65 students still come to school every day, so I feel even more sorry and love for the children," Thi said.

The friends brought warm clothes, new hats, some candy and some milk boxes, but for the children here, these were luxuries. Thi said that she would always remember the smiles and rosy cheeks of the children when they received the gifts and said: "Please". She said that she and her group members hope to have more trips to the children in the highlands like this in the future.

Meanwhile, Anh Dao told about her journey to the children at another school. It was a volunteer trip to the northernmost part of the country, where the majestic beauty of the mountains, the clouds surrounding the towering peaks reminded you of Den Vau's lyrics: "In the lowlands, we call this view a million-dollar view."

Anh Dao saw little children with red cheeks from the cold of winter walking on the tiny winding road to school to collect each letter.

The first time joining Group G9 - because of the children's smiles, Dao was often afraid because to get to Phin Lo school, he had to walk in the fog, cold wind on the slippery muddy road after the rain, and on steep slopes. But that was the way to school every day for 30 children there.

"I was told that there were days when the temperature was only 5 degrees Celsius, which made me admire the people living here even more, especially the children who go to catch letters," Dao confided.

Spread joy everywhere

In Quang Nam, students of the Green Dream Club of Le Thanh Tong High School (Hoi An City) implemented the "Warm Winter" program for children with disabilities at The Kianh Foundation Center. In addition to 100 carefully prepared gifts, the students also had exciting exchange activities for the children. The club's funds come from selling goods right at the school during the Phu Dong Sports Festival and camping.

"The moment we saw the children enthusiastically reading each letter we wrote, and cherishing the teddy bear in the gift bag made the members feel touched and happy. This is truly a precious spiritual gift for us as well as thinking about the need to create a positive development environment for children with disabilities," said Tran Ta Khanh Ngoc - club director.

Meanwhile, the One New Day Club of a group of students from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City) has just completed the project "Winter Night 2024" on December 22. They shared 150 warm, lovingly wrapped meals to uncles, aunts, brothers and sisters who need sharing.

Club leader Hoang Chuong said that club members divided up the work of finding, preparing ingredients, cooking and packaging each bowl of delicious, warm porridge to give away. "Each gift, no matter how small, is not just food but also a spiritual encouragement that we want to give on a winter night," Hoang Chuong shared.

13 years of perseverance with "Winter Warm Coat"

This year is the 13th year that the Mam Xanh Volunteer Team (Ho Chi Minh City Banking University) has organized the "Warm Winter Coats" program for children and people in the highlands. Ms. Le Thi Ngoc Le - head of the organizing committee - said that she has supported 365 households and 480 students in Dak Po Pho commune, Kong Chro district (Gia Lai province) in the 2024 program.

Each gift includes necessities, clothes, blankets, books, and school supplies donated by the community. "We chose the mission of "Sharing warmth, adding smiles" so we mobilize as many as possible to continue the journey to help those in difficult circumstances get through the cold winter," said Ms. Le.

Let's "pass the warmth"

Also coming to the children in the highlands, the Fly to Sky Volunteer Group (under the National Volunteer Center, Central Youth Union) chose to go to places that suffered a lot of damage caused by storm No. 3 Yagi in the northern mountainous provinces in September this year.

With the "Warm Coats Passed" project organized from October 2024 to present, the project aims to donate 10,000 warm coats and socks to children and poor people in many places across the country. The project has connected many hearts and sharing of the community to send warmth to children and people in cold places.

Along with warm clothes and socks, the group also mobilized resources to give gifts of cakes and necessities to people with the wish to "pass on" warmth from everywhere to everyone.
