The North welcomes two cold air waves in early January
The Northern and North Central regions today, January 1, will have rain in some places, with fog and light fog in the early morning and sunny in the afternoon. From the night of January 2-3 and from January 7-8, the Northern and North Central regions will welcome a cold air mass causing scattered rain.
Due to the influence of cold air, on January 3-4, the North turned cold, then the weather gradually warmed up. On January 7-10, the weather continued to get cold. During this period, the provinces from From Quang Binh to Phu Yen there is rain and showers.
In Lang Son province (the first place to receive cold air in the North), on January 3-4, the lowest temperature dropped to 13 degrees Celsius (down 5 degrees Celsius compared to January 2). From January 7-11, the lowest temperature in this province was around 10-11 degrees Celsius, the highest temperature was around 14-15 degrees Celsius.
In the capital Hanoi, on January 3-4, the lowest temperature is about 16 degrees Celsius (down 4 degrees Celsius compared to the previous day). From January 7-10, the lowest temperature is about 14 degrees Celsius, the highest temperature is about 20 degrees Celsius, cold weather.
In January, the average temperature nationwide was generally 1 - 2 degrees Celsius higher than the average of many years. Total rainfall in the North and North Central regions was generally at a level approximately equal to the average of many years; other regions were 5 - 15 mm lower than the average of many years, especially the provinces from Thua Thien - Hue to Khanh Hoa were 20 - 40 mm lower than the average of many years in the same period.
Cold air tends to be weaker than the average of many years, the number of days of severe cold in the Northern region is less than the average of many years in the same period; severe cold is still likely to appear in the North and North Central regions, but will not last for many days.
The forecast for cold spells is generally weak, but there is still the possibility of strong cold spells causing extreme phenomena such as frost, ice and possibly snow.
