DNVN - The price of live pigs continues to increase sharply across the country today, reaching its highest level in recent times. According to nationwide survey data, the price of live pigs currently fluctuates from 70,000 - 75,000 VND/kg.

In the Northern market, the price of live pigs has shown an upward trend in many provinces and cities. Specifically, the price in Hanoi, Bac Giang and Thai Binh increased to 72,000 VND/kg, while Yen Bai and Ninh Binh are at 71,000 VND/kg.

Currently, the price of live pigs in the Northern region remains at around 70,000 - 72,000 VND/kg. Notably, Lao Cai and Nam Dinh have the lowest price in the region at 70,000 VND/kg.

Pig price in Central Highlands

In the Central Highlands, the price of live pigs has also increased in most localities. Currently, the price of live pigs purchased by traders ranges from 70,000 - 74,000 VND/kg.

Among them, Lam Dong is currently the province with the highest price in the region at 74,000 VND/kg. Dak Lak and Binh Thuan are right behind with the same price of 73,000 VND/kg.

Pig price in the South

The Southern region continues to witness a sharp increase in live pig prices. This morning, pig prices in Dong Nai and Ben Tre reached 75,000 VND/kg, setting the highest level since the beginning of the year.

In addition, the price of live pigs in neighboring provinces and cities also continued to increase. Currently, the price ranges from 73,000 - 75,000 VND/kg, making the Southern region the place with the highest price of live pigs in the country.

Factors affecting pig prices in the coming time

- Pork supply: After a period of stability, the domestic pig herd has begun to adjust as large farms and households increase sales to take advantage of high prices. If supply increases sharply, pig prices may stagnate in the near future.

- Consumption demand: Purchasing power in the domestic market remains stable. However, if demand does not increase further in the coming time, the increase in live pig prices may slow down.

- Export to China: China is still an important market for Vietnamese pigs. If traders increase purchases for informal export, pig prices can continue to be supported.

- Livestock costs: Feed prices remain high, increasing production costs. If input material prices do not decrease, livestock costs will continue to affect domestic pig prices.

According to Lao Cai Radio and Television, the price of live pigs before and during Tet fluctuated from 65,000 to 68,000 VND/kg. However, due to the impact of the epidemic, the supply of live pigs became scarce, pushing the price up to 70,000 to 71,000 VND/kg, helping farmers earn good profits.

However, according to recommendations from professional agencies, breeders need to consider carefully, should not re-herd massively, and at the same time ensure disease safety.

Mr. Pham Ba Uyen, Head of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of Lao Cai province, said: “Breeding is the most important factor, followed by taking advantage of local feed to reduce costs and applying science and technology to animal husbandry. In addition, disease prevention, especially African swine fever, must be strictly implemented.”

Lao Cai province's professional sector also recommends that in addition to being cautious when restocking, businesses and farmers should sell pigs when they reach the appropriate weight, helping to minimize risks and contribute to market stability.
